Marc Jacobs Dangles Model From Window, But Why?

Marc Jacobs

Marc Jacobs’ new ad campaign is a bit mystifying. Why, we’d like to know, is model Natasa Vojnovik hanging by her ankles from a window? We’re all for death-defying stunts, but this one doesn’t seem to have much of a purpose. You can’t see the clothes, you can’t see her face, and I’m not entirely sure that “clothing you’ll look good while being dangled from your Park Avenue window by mobsters” is much of a selling point. Crave: Marc By Marc Jacobs Swimwear

Marc By Marc Jacobs Swimwear

Marc by Marc Jacobs, or Little Marc, is usually a bit too hipster chic for us, but his new swimsuits are too smartly-retro and cute to resist. This sweet one-piece is our favorite, probably due to residual nun-ly tendencies from Catholic school. [$164, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Neiman Marcus]

Gallery: Men We Wouldn’t Mind Seeing In Skirts

Celebrity Men In Skirts

Even in these “Tough Economic Times,” guys are willing to pay a pretty penny for a skirt that shapes that ass just right. (More like 130,000 pennies, actually.) How else do you explain the quick selling out of Thom Browne’s man skirt on Gilt Groupe just the other day? Though it was marked down significantly from its usual $4,370 price point, $1,300 is still quite a lot to pay for a male pencil skirt.

We take this to mean that the Mirt is officially cool now. Though the man skirt has a long history, Marc Jacobs revived the Mirt’s popularity when he showed the sartorially questionable creation on his runway last spring. But we’re wondering which other men will catch on and show some gam. There are a few in particular who we totally wouldn’t mind seeing in a garment with such easy access…

Like Will Smith. Mother of god, that man looks good in anything. We’d probably prefer him naked, but he makes that printed skirt look damn fine.

Slideshow: Models, Models, Models At The Met Ball

A small army of models showed up last night for the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala, celebrating the spring 2009 exhibition, “The Model As Muse: Embodying Fashion.” There were supermodels (Kate, Iman), new girls (Agyness, Jessica), model-moguls (Heidi, Tyra).

You can’t have a party—let alone a party about models—without Kate Moss. Marc Jacobs and Moss are high fashion’s prom king and queen. Marc is slick in a satin bowtie, while Kate’s got her Edie Beale on with that turban. In head to toe gold, she looks like an Oscar statue, don’t you think?

Michael Jackson Wants To Adopt
  • Michael Jackson wants to adopt a child while he’s in London. Sadly, he’ll probably get exactly want he wants. [Dlisted]
  • Marc Jacobs and his fiance Lorenzo Martone could be planning an adoption of their own while in Brazil. [Perez Hilton]
  • Madonna’s loose morals and questionable choice in lovers could prevent her from adopting a second Malawian child. But let’s face it, they’ll probably sell, er, I mean, provide another child for Madge. [NationalEnquirer.com]

I Wanna Dress Like: Mary Poppins

    Mary Poppins movie still

This year marks the 45th anniversary of “Mary Poppins,” one of my all-time favorite movies. While I had never really thought of Mary as a fashion icon, the Spring 2009 Marc Jacobs show made me see otherwise. When the models came out wearing fabulous squashed straw boater hats, images of the ultimate super-nanny popped into my head. Borrow some of these Mary Poppins-inspired accessories, and you’ll look simply supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!

Madonna Rocks Out With Her Crotch Out, Gets Booed

    Madonna Louis Vuitton Ad Criticized

In an article entitled “Put It Away Madonna!” UK newspaper, The Daily Mail, boldly stated that they think Madge is too old to flash her vadge.  Excuse me, the Material Girl damn near invented crotch shots!  And the now 50-year-old looks super sexy in the new Louis Vuitton ads in which she’s sprawled out in a booth with a leg up and a come hither look.  Honestly, I can’t get over the muscle training alone required to lift that piece of luggage above her head with a stiletto heel! I can barely grab my bag off the airport turnstile with both arms.  Heck, even a homosexual like designer Marc Jacobs can’t resist her charms!  It was his idea to make the Queen of Pop his cover girl. Why should motherhood stop the sex symbol from doing her thing? She’s a straight up MILF representin’! At the very least, over 15 years later, it’s nice to know people still uncontrollably pop a woody for her, even if it makes reporter/hater Chris Johnson uncomfortably critical. We’ve come up with five other things we think that the newly single M could do with her crotch to expand her business, besides sell luxury handbags…

Madonna To Be Face of Spring/Summer Louis Vuitton

    Madonna Louis Vuitton ad

A 50-year-old Madonna will be the new face of luxury brand’s Louis Vuitton’s spring/summer 2009 collection. The idea to use Madonna came to Marc Jacobs, the label’s creative director, while watching her concert in Paris last year. “I just blurted out, ‘I think we should do Madonna,’” he said. “I was totally just blown away by it, and moved by her performance, by what she had to say, and her energy.” He sent her a text asking if she’d be interested, she replied, “I’d love to,” and she was quickly reunited with photographer Steven Meisel, who took the pictures for her infamous Sex book in 1992. Madonna resurrects the whole underwear-as-outerwear schtick in Meisel’s shots of her wearing fishnet tights and LV lingerie in a smoky French bistro setting. In another one of the six campaign images, Madonna actually dons a jacket.

Antoine Arnault, Louis Vuitton’s communications director, explained their choice in the Queen of Pop: “Madonna is glamorous. She has a global image. She’s the ultimate performer and businesswoman, and not someone who is just a famous singer. She has travelled. She has tried to change things.”

The more-than-famous singer was reportedly paid $10 million for her hard day’s work but Arnault has denied the figure, saying the real fee was “very far away from that.” Hopefully, she got to keep the panties. [Telegraph.co.uk]

12 Things We Can Thank Gay People For!

12 Things We'd Not Have Without Gay People

Across the country today, a lot people called out of work, not because they’re sick, but because they’re queer.  It’s A Day Without A Gay! This boycott hopes to show the gay community’s strength in the face of Prop 8 and other anti-gay marriage bills that passed back in November. It’s days like these that truly remind us how much we idolize our gay friends, relatives, and heroes. It got us thinking…what would happen if they called out of work every day? After the jump, 12 things we would have missed out on if gay men and women weren’t a part of our society.

Questionable Guy Trend: The Man Skirt

    Marc Jacobs In A Skirt

While we’re still not sure how we feel about men in tights, couture designers like John Galliano, Comme des Garçons, and Etro are putting men in skirts and sending them down the runway.  And we’re not talking tribal Scottish kilts here either—a woman could easily wear these duds for dudes.  The designer taste makers claim the look of a skirt for men has been catching on all over Europe this past season and now they have been showing off the menswear trend during the Spring/Summer 2009 Fashion Week in New York.

    Below-The-Belt Chic: Designer Condoms

    coopstuff.com condoms

Condoms. So important—yet so not stylish. Until now! For years, condoms haven’t exactly been the next Birkin bag. Instead, condoms are what you peruse in the drugstore aisle late at night, and the big decision is whether to get Trojans or Durex. Recently, though, as safe sex has become the golden rule, fashion designers, hip artists, and condom manufacturers have begun offering up a bevy of stylish choices when it comes to rubbers. Is there really a Marc Jacobs condom? Found out that and more after the jump.

    Fashion Slideshow: Headbands Galore!

    jeweled flower headband

Headbands are an accessory often overlooked by grown woman. For sure, certain styles make their wearer look a little innocent, which isn’t always a bad thing. Remember when Winona Ryder sported a headband during her shoplifting trial in 2002? But these headbands are a little more fabulous than the ones you wore in elementary school. They have things like feathers (Have you noticed I have a thing for feather headbands?), jewels, and flowers adorning them, so they’re pretty fancy. Also, they come in handy when your hair is just not cooperating.

Posh Spice Says Hello To Camel Toe

We’re so glad leggings are in style! They put on a leg show and cover cellulite. But now that they’ve made a comeback, so has the dreaded camel toe. Honestly, people, come on! When you’re wearing spandex bottoms, you have to add a long top or a short dress that will hide your stuff, so even the FBI would have do get permission to do an investigation. But apparently, Victoria Beckham isn’t aware of the laws of her land or Fannypack’s instructional dance hit from a few years ago.  She was just spotted sporting a frontal split in leather leggings, flying in the face of fashion, and decency, by pairing them with a cropped jacket. Why Posh, why?!  Although Vicky Becky is the new Marc Jacobs icon, she must have missed the company memo. At the fashion house’s Arabian Nights themed Christmas party, Marc Jacobs himself wore an anti-camel toe costume.
