Esquire, the men’s mag, just named new mom Halle Berry, “Sexiest Woman Alive 2008.”  Not bad for a 42-year-old woman who spent a quarter of the year with a baby bump!  Humbled, yet perplexed, by the honor after being in the business for 21 years, Berry asked, “Does being the sexiest woman alive imply that I know a thing or two about what’s sexy and, possibly, about sex itself? I’m not sure, but here’s what I do know: I know damned well I’m sexier now than I used to be!” Girl, you always looked good to us!  So, in honor of Ms. Berry, who reminds us that, “Sexy is not about wearing sexy clothes or shaking your booty until you damn near get hip dysplasia; it’s about knowing that sexiness is a state of mind,” here are some other sexy women we’d like to congratulate for being who they are, just like Halle! Marriage is so out this wedding season! Only Mariah Carey is doing it, that’s how over it is. After a nuptial-less summer—not even Kate Moss made it down the aisle—we started noticing the new Hollywood trend.  Longterm partnerships (sans diamonds, splashy affairs, and cheesy photos) are the must-have Ray-Ban Wayfarers of relationships!  After both had failed marriages, hippie generation icons Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell have been going at it, without making it official, for 25 years. In an interview, Goldie claimed their secret to success is, “knowing I can walk out at any moment…that keeps things fresh.” And after going through the pain of divorce, many stars seem to agree.

I can’t remember the last time I picked up a lady mag and saw an African-American woman on the cover that wasn’t Halle Berry. The beauty and hair advice doled out in these magazines is targeted at white women unless otherwise noted and the major runway shows are pitifully powder white (Eastern-European is very in). It’s sucky, to say the least. Vogue Italia decided to do something about it, declaring their July issue “The Black Issue”—all of the featured models would be Black and all the featured content would address Black women. This is all fine and dandy on a purely surface level I suppose, except that by making this issue “special” they’ve defined all other, white-centric issues as the usual and the norm. Rather than having more women of color in every issue, targeting a single issue at one ethnic group doesn’t really do anything to increase diversity, now does it? That’s weak. [NY Times]

Thinking about going on a sexpedition?  Well, Stockholm, Sweden, was just voted the city in the world with the most beautiful women by Traveler’s Digest.  So consider yourself warned of the competition!  The cuties in Copenhagen, Denmark came in a close second, and Buenos Aires, Argentina in third.  Although, the entire survey seems skewed since Los Angeles came in fifth.  How can four cities beat a town filled with the likes of Halle Berry, Scarlett Johansson and Angelina Jolie?! The March 10th issue of Us Weekly discusses female celebrities who proposed to their men—though they didn’t necessarily wait for a leap year to do it. Halle Berry proposed to David Justice in 1992. Britney Spears proposed to Kevin Federline in 2004. Pink proposed to Carey Hart in 2005. Are ya seeing a pattern?
