The Frisky just started tooling around on Twitter and a few of our staff have iPhones, which we kind of know how to use. But maybe we could learn a thing or two about putting these handy-dandy technologies to use in business by talking to one of our local streetwalkers. Apparently, the internet has become a useful tool for sex workers to spread their gospel, and, in the wake of the Eliot Spitzer scandal, also do a little public relations spinning. “Sex workers are sentient beings and we are very capable of speaking for ourselves,” Audacia Ray, sex worker advocate and author of Naked on the Internet: Hookups, Downloads and Cashing In on Internet Sexploration, told Wired magazine. “We are organizing politically and we do have opinions about the ways that sex work could be responded to differently by government and media.” When the Spitzer prostitution ring story broke, sex workers who are actively involved in the community wanted to have their voice hear on the issue, and used devices like the iPhone and programs like Twitter, Google Docs, and RSS feeds to be on top of hearing and responding to the breaking news. With all of this Eliot Spitzer business going on, we started wondering, “If we were a high-priced prostitute, which governor would we want to do?” because, let’s face it, Eliot leaves something to be desired. So here are the five best-looking governors this country has to offer.

New York’s new Governor Patterson, the replacement for hooker-lovin’ Eliot Spitzer, has just admitted to cheating on his wife for years. What is going on with our male politicians?  They may make (and break) the laws, but it seems like the ladies have got more clout over Capitol Hill than any lobby!

It may seem like we’re overly focused on Northeastern U.S. political scandals here at The Frisky, but if Northeastern politicians would stop indulging in such pervy personal business, we would stop. The latest from the region that was proud to call Eliot Spitzer “The Love Gov”? That other dilly-dallying Governor—former NJ Governor Jim McGreevey—has even more skeletons in his closet…though it seems to be more of a strike against his ex-wife Dina Matos. McGreevey famously resigned from his post a couple of years ago because a former aide accused him of sexual harassment—he later came out as a homosexual. His ex-wife Matos (whose fashion sense we admired only a few days ago) wrote a book about her “sham” of a marriage and said she was totally blind-sighted by her husband’s admitting that he was gay (he claims she knew all along). Well now the former driver for the couple says that he used to have threesomes with the pair every Friday night—and McGreevey has backed up the claim as TRUE. Might Matos’ tell-all be as big a sham as her marriage? Hope she still has that powder blue suit and pearls—this scandal is far from over. [Yahoo! News]

There are a number of talentless singer-wannabes who put their tracks on their MySpace pages but will never get a record deal. For the most part, that’s a good thing. However, there are many MySpace musicians who are more talented than “real” musicians—and we’re not just talking about Lily Allen and friends. Ashley Alexandra Dupre, the escort known as “Kristen” who was involved with former NY Governor Eliot Spitzer, is herself an aspiring singer. Due to the attention she’s gotten over the last few days, her songs “What We Want” and “Move Ya Body” are number one and two on online music site AmieStreet.com. They’re not groundbreaking, and some of the lyrics are questionable, but Ashley’s songs aren’t terrible. With the right lyricist and producer, she could totally have a hit. A political sex scandal is a headline writer’s dream. So, were they creative enough when typing up this week’s big bombshell about now former-New York Governor Eliot Spitzer?

Frankly, we’re a little disappointed. The NY Post, after all, is the paper that came up with the headline “Close But No Cigar” after the Senate failed to convict President Clinton in 1999. However, the aftershocks of this scandal are sure to be felt for at least a little while longer, so maybe they’ll take it up a notch.

Thanks to Feministing for reminding us to mention something that’s been hardcore bugging us about this whole Eliot Spitzer scandal. Why do the wives of these politicians have to get up on stage with them while they confess their sins to the public? Chances are they probably just found out the truth themselves and instead of getting to behave like normal betrayed women (whether that means crying, screaming, breaking glasses, plotting revenge, decapitation, or all of the above), they have to do the whole “stand by your man” thing. So unfair! Is that the price you have to pay as the wife of a public official? Can’t these ladies at least chill in the green room scowling and clutching a glass of bourbon, their dignity intact? It’s such a bummer to have to play supportive wife to these cheating scoundrels. Anyway, this is indeed a good excuse for a lil’ Tammy Wynette. Enjoy!
