My pubescent pop-culture adrenaline soared to dangerous heights for MTV’s Video Music Awards back in high school. And still, it’s fun to see who made the cut. So get your ballots ready, cause the nominations are in! “Single lady” Beyoncé and Lady Gaga each have nine nominations, tying for the top spot. Britney Spears has the third-highest number of nominations—she reeled in seven. We’ll have to wait until September 13, when Russell Brand hosts the show for the second year in a row, to see who walks home with the most moon men. Maybe they should start making a moon woman? Over the weekend, Britney Spears was snapped on her way to the salon to get her extensions fixed up. Embarrassing! (Not that Brit is easily shamed.) We had to wonder…do people still get hair extensions? Apparently so. Unfortunately, it’s people like Spears and Paris Hilton that give the hair treatment a bad rep because their manes never look normal, and always look fried.

During his concert in Philly on Saturday, Elton John dedicated a song to Reese Witherspoon, who was there with her BF, Jake Gyllenhal. Before he started playing “Tiny Dancer,” Elton said, “Reese, this one’s for you.” We think it was pretty random of the singer to shout out Reese, but musicians are always busting out weird dedications. Even without all the flair and fanfare of her high-octane performance past, Britney is still doing pretty well for herself, now out with her new video for “Radar,” the fourth single off her latest album Circus. As if tweens around the planet didn’t already swoon at the mere mention of the Jonas brothers, Joe Jonas had to make their pitter-pattering hearts go into early palpitations by crying in front of an arena of fans because of his breakup with Camilla Belle. The middle Jonas brother broke into sobs last night while playing a show in Detroit and it was projected for all to see on the megatron. The commentary of “OH MY GOD he’s crying!!!” by the two Jonas fanatics in the background of the video is to die for. Whether this is a monumental embarrassment for Joe Jonas or his great scheme to win Camilla back, it’s not the first time a celeb has broken down in the public eye after a breakup. [LA Times Blog]

Britney Spears first debuted her manufactured makeover in an ad for Candie’s shoes. Standing next to yummy desserts and a pink polo-ed prince charming, Brit-Brit’s “Barbie” look is admittedly better than, well, being bald. Now Candie’s has released a new commercial featuring Britney. In it, Britney keeps up the Barbie fairytale, eyeing a polo-playing prepster who will hopefully fall for her because of her rockin’ Candie’s shoes. In true Britney style, she follows her man around a mansion singing a Britney exclusive, “Radar.” Is it just me or does the song sound oddly similar to “Womanizer?” [via Jezebel] 

Did you ever think that Britney Spears could save anybody’s life? Not so much, unless we’re talking about deflecting a bullet with a swinging umbrella or walking barefoot in the bathroom and soaking up all the germs so that they don’t invade another’s body. But according to a new BBC documentary called “Britney Spears Saved My Life,” Britney’s been the savior for lots of folks.

Guess nothing says “Number One Fan” like getting a celeb’s image tattooed on your chest. Britney is slated to visit Russia soon and will probably appreciate 18-year-old Savina’s gesture. You know who won’t? Savina, when she gets older and, hopefully, wiser. [Buzzfeed]

Brit agreed to the arrangement because she thought it would make it easier for her to get custody of her two sons. America’s former sweetheart is apparently pretty mean! Britney Spears has reportedly been giving ex-hub Kevin Federline crap about turning into a fatty-bo-batty. She allegedly calls him “K-Fatter-line,” “fat housewife,” and often asks him when the baby’s due. According to Celebitchy, BritBrit has insisted K-Fed lose the 85-or-so pounds he’s gained since they got married five years ago, so he can “stop showing their kids it’s OK to be fat and sloppy.” [Celebitchy]

Wait, I’m not sure who to make fun of first. Britney calling anyone sloppy is amazing. I feel bad for K-Fed getting made fun of, but he does hookup with mad chicks and has totally mooched off Britney for years. Do you guys think Britney’s being rude or should K-Fed drop the extra Olsen?

I guess it’s no surprise that some people are a little twisted. But ever since Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcett, and Michael Jackson died within a span of 72 hours, fake celebrity death stories have started cluttering up the internet. Sites like Twitter and FakeAWish.com, even CNN’s iReport, have created major drama for publicists and sent them scrambling to set the record straight that their clients are very much alive.

As if last week weren’t traumatic enough, over the weekend, some jokester hacked into Britney Spears’ TwitPic account (it isn’t owned by Twitter, but it’s used to turn pics into tweets) and claimed she was dead. “Britney has passed today,” read the message. “It is a sad day for everyone. More news to come.” Thank goodness it was bogus—what would we have done if we’d lost the King and Princess of Pop in the same week?!
