Thank Kylie Minogue For Your Mammogram!

    Kylie Minogue

Kylie Minogue, who just turned the big 4-0 last week, has made women want to wear more spandex, sing at the top of their lungs, and dance like there’s no tomorrow. She’s beaten breast cancer and has also proved that Billboard hits aren’t the only charts she’s been affecting. Since openly talking about her battle with breast cancer in 2005, the Australian medical establishment is crediting her with a 33% spike in mammograms for women between the ages of 25 and 44. (If only gay men could get their moobs screened, you know the numbers would have skyrocketed!) [CBC News]

    Cleavage For Charity

    Cleavage Creek wines

While boobalicious models in booze ads are known for boosting sales, this time it’s more than just for show, it’s for a good cause.  A cheeky new line of wines from Cleavage Creek feature labels with sexy Breast Cancer Survivors—like Carson Daly’s mom—showing off their décolletage. Napa Valley winery owner and activist, Budge Brown, came up with the idea to raise funds for a cure after his wife of 48 years passed away from the disease which almost 200,000 women a year are diagnosed with in America alone. “My goal was to honor their courage and inspire them,” the 75-year-old proprietor said of his plans. The bottles retail for $15 and 10% of the purchase price goes to various Breast Cancer organizations.  [Trend Hunter]

The Daily Squeeze: Lost Rings, Monkey Porn, And Breast Cancer

  • This is a really sad story. A woman who was in a car accident was airlifted to a hospital and eventually died, survived by her husband, a four-year-old and a one-year-old. At some point when she was in the hospital, her engagement and wedding rings, which she designed, went missing. Now there’s a $20,000 award for them, because her husband wants her sons to have something that belonged to her. [CNN]

Cynthia Nixon: I Had Breast Cancer

    Cynthia Nixon

Cynthia Nixon (best known for playing Miranda on Sex and the City) revealed on Good Morning America this morning that she battled breast cancer two years ago. She chose to keep her diagnosis quiet until she was done with treatment so that the paparazzi wouldn’t flock to the hospital everytime she was in for radiation treatment. Now that she’s healthy, she’s working as a spokesman for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation. [Us Weekly]

    Bitchin’ Stitchin’ Saves Lives

    Boobs & Dinks

Crafting is the hobby du jour for ladies—myself and my homemade superhero cape included.  While I think my cool cape gives me the appearance that I can save lives, Shannon Gerard’s “Boobs and Dinks” actually do just that.  Every three minutes a woman in the U.S. is diagnosed with breast cancer, which means we have to take matters into our own hands, literally. Ms. Gerard’s line of crocheted private parts are stitched with lumps inside them and come with a book intended to teach people how to give themselves early detection self-examinations. Plus, they’ll make you fondle yourself for more than one good cause! Part of the proceeds go to Cottage Dreams, a cancer recovery center. [If your boss would consider a crocheted penis NSFW, wait till ya get home to peruse this link.] [Etsy: Boobs & Dinks]

Elle Woods Party Plans Your Next Mammogram

Latching onto the earth-shattering news that women love a good party, an Orlando radiology clinic is hosting mammogram parties to encourage women to get the breast cancer check-up. So, yeah, we appreciate the sentiment—i.e., let’s try and make women feel like coming to get their boobs flattened between two metal plates is, like, super fun if you’ve got a Cosmopolitan in your hand—but it seems vaguely trivializing. Like women won’t get life saving check-ups unless there are little bite sized finger foods, pink streamers, and Fergie on the stereo. There are some things we want to be sterile, quiet, and devoid of female stereotypes—this would be one of them. What’s next? Manis and pedis while you’re in the stirrups at the gyno? Facials at the dentist? Brazilian waxes during a colonoscopy? [CBS News]
