Chris March is usually very jovial and humble when he’s competing on “Project Runway,” but sometimes a man has to put his foot down if he’s being disrespected. March has filed a lawsuit against fellow designer Thierry Mugler for allegedly not paying him for the work he did on Beyoncé‘s “I Am” tour costumes. Now hold on a sec before you get all hot and bothered. Mugler did design the costumes, but March executed them because he’s used to designing for the stage and “wild” dancing. March says he had to figure out a way to attach a harness into one of Beyoncé‘s costumes and had to mold corsets to fit her figure perfectly. Everything was going smoothly, says March, until he submitted his last payment invoice after getting the finished costumes to Edmonton, Canada by March 26, the day of Beyoncé‘s first show. March says Mugler left for Paris without paying anyone. (Beyoncé had paid Mugler and he was supposed to pay his team.) March told The Cut, “There’s just been a refusal to pay with no reason.”

This seems to be an oversight. I doubt Mugler handles his own invoices. Though, it’s too bad that the seven-year work relationship between these two has to end this way.

We noticed our good friend Courtney Dunlop over at the Stylelist blog posted this rather disturbing pic of Beyonce out on the town wearing one of the most questionable hairdos of all time, the curly bang. (Although maybe she just needs to read our post about how not to look a hot mess?) My pubescent pop-culture adrenaline soared to dangerous heights for MTV’s Video Music Awards back in high school. And still, it’s fun to see who made the cut. So get your ballots ready, cause the nominations are in! “Single lady” Beyoncé and Lady Gaga each have nine nominations, tying for the top spot. Britney Spears has the third-highest number of nominations—she reeled in seven. We’ll have to wait until September 13, when Russell Brand hosts the show for the second year in a row, to see who walks home with the most moon men. Maybe they should start making a moon woman? Kelly Clarkson‘s new single, “Already Gone,” probably sounds a bit familiar. That’s because you’ve already heard the music in Beyonce‘s love ballad, “Halo.” Evidently, music producer Ryan Tedder stupidly gave both ladies the same track, although they wrote very different songs to go with it. Beyonce beat Kelly out of the gate and by the time Kelly heard “Halo” and tried to stop the release of her song, it was too late. This snafu is causing all kinds of radio confusion—when Kelly’s song starts to play, people are expecting to hear “Halo.” And Kelly is very worried that people will label her a copycat. Full disclosure: We absolutely adore Solange Knowles’ new haircut. Yeah, we hear the snickers about it being an obvious ploy for attention. (And regarding its success, some of you may def beg to differ). Well, we think it works! With one cut, she’s accomplished what her normally over-the-top styling never seemed to do: make her look chic, edgy and radiant. We’ve also noticed that Rihanna, Cassie and even Ciara are all leaders of this new school of short, chic, and recession friendly ‘dos. Because if you think about it, rocking pounds of weave is not only high-maintenance, but expensive. Don’t you wish other stars like Beyonce, Tyra Banks and Britney Spears would take a cue and ditch their hair extensions? Actually, we take that last one back. We all remember Britney’s epic attempt, which resulted in an epic FAIL. Still. Have you done any chopping lately in order to save time and money?

Some people applaud the triple threat, the complete entertainer who dances, sings, and acts (to some extent). But Nia Long makes a great argument to the contrary, and she goes after Beyonce in the process. Nia told Pride magazine that singers should sing and rappers should rap, and casting should reflect talent, not box office-draw. “I didn’t see ‘Obsessed,’ so I can’t comment, but it’s just not about how talented you are anymore. It’s about, ‘How much box-office revenue will this person generate,’” the actress said. “When you see certain people—we won’t name names—they just don’t have the skill, and no one in their team has said, ‘You need acting classes.’” Nia does, however, commend Jamie Foxx for being able to sing and hone his acting craft. Teen girls should be able to express themselves. That’s the point of Beyoncé and Tina Knowles’s new juniors collection for their already established label (Déreon), called Sasha Fierce, after Beyoncé‘s album character. Says Tina, “[The collection] is edgier and trendier and reflects Sasha Fierce’s daring and outgoing attitude.” Edgy is a mild way of putting the “back-to-school” looks that include curve-hugging minidresses, one-shouldered dresses, black bodysuits, and fingerless gloves and f**k-me pumps. 


So far, Beyoncé has been a fairly solid role model as someone who exudes a huge amount of confidence, is sexy without being slutty, and projects a solid image of family and relationships. But, we have to ask…would you let your teen go to school dressed like this? [WWD]

Beyonce has filed a federal lawsuit in New York against a group of people who are selling bootleg copies of her CDs and other knock-off merchandise at her concerts around the world.

According to TMZ, her legal team hasn’t been able to track down exactly who’s selling the unauthorized goods (how you sue an unknown person is a mystery to me), but they’re anticipating the sales continuing at Bey’s upcoming Madison Square Garden concerts on June 21st and 22nd so they’re trying to get a judge to rule the merch illegal. The “Diva” video was just a mash-up of her other videos. And now “Ego” looks like it was filmed the same day she did “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It).” “Ego” would have been perfect for a video that told a story, but Beyonce only has time for a tried and true trick. You’d think Beyonce, who wants to be a celebrated actress, would take any opportunity to act instead of continuing to shake her butt.

African-American women may spend almost eight billion dollars a year on beauty products and cosmetics but they still can’t get no satisfaction. That’s what a new study by Essence magazine revealed. During a breakfast conference at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in New York this week, a panel, which included Essence’s beauty editor Mikki Taylor and legendary makeup artist Same Fine, discussed the findings.

Beyonce tells Self that her dream of winning an Oscar is what keeps her in shape. She has a painting of the golden statue in her gym, she explains. “I look at it, and I’m like, OK, I have to stay in shape,” she said. I don’t get the connection between winning an Oscar and staying in shape. Jennifer Hudson proved that smaller sizes aren’t the ones winning Academy Awards. Maybe Beyonce was trying to take a dig at Hudson, who didn’t look her best when she won the Oscar for her role in “Dreamgirls,” which costarred Beyonce. Let’s face it, B. isn’t a great actress—she’s slightly better than mediocre—so she should probably give up her dream or at least stop talking about it. Her performances as a singer/dancer to be more entertaining. Saying her love of unitards forces her to stay in shape would have made more sense. [E! Online]
