Zoe Kravitz Is The New Face Of Vera Wang Princess

Facebook

It’s only fitting that Zoe Kravitz, the offspring of rock and Hollywood royalty, would be the spokesmodel for Vera Wang Princess perfume. It’s too bad she was photographed in that tragic wig.

Beauty Test Drive: Dior Lip Maximizing Gloss

Dior lip gloss

We’re not entirely sure that Dior’s Lip Maximizer gloss actually made our lips look larger, but it did make them look gloriously shiny and leave us with a tingling sensation that we would like to believe meant it was working. The gloss claims that it will help reshape the contours of your lips in 15 days, but we’re a bit skeptical of that claim. They looked a little more luscious (we think…) for a short period of time, but the light pink lip gloss doesn’t strike us as having the stamina to create lasting Angelina Jolie Mouth. That said, $30 is a lot to spend on a lip gloss with dubious plumping abilities. But the color is that perfect mix of sheer and sparkly that won’t leave you looking like a hooker if you wear it during the day, so if you’ve got the money to spend, it’s kind of the perfect wear-it-whenever gloss, and the pretty packaging doesn’t hurt, either. [$30, Dior, Sephora]

Demi Moore’s Youth Extending Beauty Secret Revealed!

Demi Moore

While most of us suspect Demi Moore‘s exceptional ability to seemingly grow younger-looking by the day has to do with scalpels and needles, she insists there’s a far more natural (yet creepier) regimen at hand: “I was in Austria doing a cleanse and part of the treatment was leech therapy. These aren’t just swamp leeches though—we are talking about highly trained medical leeches. These are not some low level scavengers—we’re talking high level blood suckers,” she said. Highbrow indeed! We know leeches have been used in the medical field for years, but have no clue how they improve your complexion. In other beauty news, Moore will likely be the next to debut a celebrity line. She’s reportedly in talks with beauty giant Helena Rubenstein to develop a new product range. No word on whether blood-sucking worms will be utilized as key ingredients. [IOL]

6 Dos And Dont’s For Boxed Beauty Gifts

beauty gift boxes

The holiday season is upon us. Which means the stores are stocked with those oh-so-convenient gift boxes—the easy cop-out when you can’t put something better together yourself. Beauty gift boxes can be great ... but they can also send the wrong message. Make sure you don’t fall into these holiday traps.

Christmastime tends to bring a bevy of traditional scents, which are delicious in cakes, cookies, and alcoholic beverages. No one wants to bathe in eggnog. [$16, Philosophy, Sephora.com]

Instead, try something that embodies the sweet spirit and works well at the same time, like Fresh’s wonderful sugar scrub products. [$75, Fresh, Barneys.com]

Check Out Forever 21’s New Beauty Line

Forever 21 beauty line

Continuing their obvious bid for complete and total retail domination, Forever 21 has expanded into beauty, because clearly they’re not satisfied simply sticking to fast fashion. The new collection, Love & Beauty, will launch on Nov. 8 and include lip gloss, mascara, eyeshadow, and eyeliner. While the products surely won’t be Sephora-style quality, it’ll most likely be the cheapest and easiest way to try new beauty trends—a similar approach for many to their trendy clothing. If you spend $75 today, you’ll receive a free lip gloss to try ... and hopefully you’ll love it enough to become a fan of the line. This is just the beginning of their expansion though, as the brand is planning on moving into the home goods sector as well. Like we said, total domination. [Forever 21]

Nail Art As Real Art

nail art

Finally, someone looks beyond the superficial value of manicures. Photographer Molly Sorno focuses her work on nail art, salons, and manicure culture. Her pictures make you realize that your nails say a lot about you—concentrate solely on them, and you start imagining the person neon airbrushed tips belong to. Sorno’s work is now on display at the Brooklyn, NY gallery Nefer/NFR along with other artists’ works that explore the concept of adornment. If you’re in the area, check it out! Otherwise, look to Sorno’s vision as proof that what you wear on the outside resonates culturally. (Just don’t go so far as to call yourself an artist when you’re getting dressed in the morning.) Pete Wentz Needs A Makeunder Intervention

Pete Wentz

Why hello there, Pete Wentz, glad you’re here. We have something rather important to discuss with you. It has come to our attention that you’re wearing far too much makeup, even if your intention was to make it “pop” on the red carpet. In fact, we’ve tolerated your guyliner ways for a long time now, but when you show up to the party wearing more paint than your girl and your name is not David Bowie, then that’s when you know you need to shut it down, my friend. The heavy pancake foundation (in the wrong shade for your skin tone we might add), the extravagant eye makeup, the shimmery lip gloss—it’s all too much to take in. Now go get yourself some industrial-strength makeup remover and get the hell out of here.

How To Get Pretty, Shimmery Shoulders

shoulders

For some reason I’m always eying up womens’ shoulders. Unlike any other part of a woman, no matter what their size, shoulders always look sexy. And before you make a face, it’s not a pervy thing, I just think that it’s a seriously underrated body part. Haven’t we heard enough about legs and, jeez,  boobs? So, imagine how pumped i was when I came across a post about how to achieve that luminous shoulder look. What’s better than bare shoulders? Shimmery ones. According to the girls at Glamour‘s blog, I should pay a little extra attention to my shoulders—not hours more, just a little bit. Basically, treat your shoulders like your face when you’re wanting a little luminosity: Hit the bits of your shoulders the sun would hit (your collarbone, the rounded bits of your shoulder, etc.) with a pearly body lotion like Scott Barnes’s Body Bling or even a little bit of the shimmer you use to highlight your face, like a Nars “The Multiple” stick in Copacabana. Good for the holiday party circuit, no? [Glamour]

Get Your Hard Candy Fix At Walmart

Hard Candy beauty products

In August, we heard cult ‘90s makeup brand Hard Candy was coming to Walmart stores at lower prices. Well, the time to paint your nails funky colors and wear matching jelly rings has arrived. Hard Candy lipsticks, glosses, eye shadows, concealers, and, yes, nail polish, are available now. The products have retained their cute packaging and playful palette, but they’ve kicked the hefty price tag. Back when Hard Candy launched in the 1996, LA retailer Fred Segal sold bottles of pale blue polish for $18 a pop. These days, everything costs $10 or less. And, if you don’t live near a Walmart store, buy online—shipping costs just 97 cents. Needless to say, our nails will be painted forest green as soon as the postman delivers our order. [Walmart]

I’m Convinced That Glittery Makeup Can Work In Real Life

glittery makeup

We’ve talked about crazy makeup trends before—and even went to the source of this current glittery eyeshadow trend—but up until now, I was totally anti. Sparkle-related makeup was always one of those things that looked great on celebs or in photo shoots, but, for me personally, I couldn’t be convinced of how to pull it off in real life without looking like a disco ball—until now. Witness model Natalia Vodianova’s spread in the new December issue of V (one of the photos is above!). For the first time, it’s do-able glitter—and I think I’m intrigued because here is how it works ...

15 Smokin’ Celebs With Girl-Next-Door Freckles

Emma Stone

While some people think straight teeth and porcelain skin are the paragon of beauty, we like when ladies embrace “imperfections” and rock front-tooth gaps and refuse to cover their freckles with foundation. The ability to have freckles is genetic, and luckily my parents gave me the right DNA because the little brown spots that dot my nose are my favorite facial feature. What To Do When A Favorite Beauty Product Gets Discontinued

discontinued beauty products

The other day I was at Target picking up a few things when I noticed the packaging on my Olay Complete All Day Moisture Lotion for Sensitive Skin with SPF 15 had changed. Then, I saw the active ingredients were highlighted in yellow, which alerted me to the fact that they weren’t the usual 6 percent octinoxate and 3 percent zinc oxide. Olay changed my favorite moisturizer on me!

I know this company didn’t mean to cause me any harm. They were, I’m sure, simply updating the product to make it even better. But since my skin is so very sensitive, the new, slightly different formula doesn’t work as well for me, and I’ve heard others reporting greasy-looking skin and breakouts due to the switch. What’s a girl to do when a staple in her beauty regimen gets changed or discontinued? Keep reading for six tips on how to deal with the loss of a favorite beauty product.

Moisturize For A Good Cause

Kiehl's Limited Edition Creme De Corps designed by KAWS

When you do something good, you shouldn’t expect to get anything in return. But, you have to admit, it’s not so bad when you do. During the holiday season, Kiehl’s is selling a special edition version of their beloved by the masses Creme de Corps body moisturizer, with 100 percent of the net profits supporting RxArt, an organization that brings art to pediatric hospital patients. The lotion, with a bright label designed by graffiti artist KAWS, guarantees to keep your skin (or a loved one’s) nice and soft all winter. And every time you put some on, you’ll be enriching young patients’ lives with art. [$26.50, Kiehl’s]

How To Get Agyness’ Batcrackers Crazy Lash Look

Agyness Deyn

My my, the fashion stars certainly decided to shine bright at the recent ACE Awards. No one could really compete with Lady Gaga’s interesting ensemble, but supermodel-of-the-moment Agyness Deyn came close with her edgy beauty look. Not only did she rock the bowl cut that’s so chic right now, we also got the scoop from the lady behind her accompanying fine feathered friends. Makeup artist Frances Hathaway applied Shu Uemura’s Black Velvet Feather False Eyelashes to her lower lids. “Agyness is a cutting edge girl,” said Hathaway. “I needed a fashion-forward lash with an architectural influence.” Did she ever! However, she cautions that one must exercise restraint in such situations: “When making such a big statement, keep it simple; just make one lash.” After all, you wouldn’t want to go overboard.

How Long Until You Let A New Guy See You Without Makeup?

girl covering face

Unless you’re a Neutrogena spokesmodel with flawless skin, you know there’s a huge difference between you with makeup and the bare-faced you. At least, I know this in my case. It’s not that my skin tone is that uneven or that I have so much acne, but I look like a completely different (and prettier) person with a swipe of foundation and a dab of concealer in the problem areas.
