A couple months ago I wrote a post about my latest pair of painful high heels (seriously, my toenail is still bruised from wearing them for three hours!) and begged the Frisky community for help finding a pair of truly comfortable heels. You guys delivered with some awesome brand recommendations that I’ve been meaning to compile into a list–complete with online shopping links–for quite awhile. Thanks again for all your suggestions, and now, without further ado, I present The Frisky’s shoppable guide to comfortable high heeled shoes… Keep reading »

Daddy's Money?

These sneaker wedges are totally cool. This commercial that’s been running on MTV? Not so much. Sketchers’ two-inch-high sneaker wedges are called Daddy’$, pronounced “Daddy’s Money,” and the tweens in the commercial sing about a “hot daddy’s girl” — all at once innocent and sexy and spending your “daddy’s” cash. Not your own money or your family’s money — your daddy’s money. (Do they mean your actual daddy that changed your shit-stained diapers or your creepy older boyfriend? Not clear!) This commercial just gives me the skeevs and not just because the person who bought and paid for all my sneakers growing up was my mom.  [Babble]

"Who's A Good (Bryan) Boy?"

There might be only one thing we love more than fashion, and that’s animals. So when Refinery 29 sent us this clip of very fashionable pup checking out the latest and greatest in footwear at New York Fashion Week, we felt like we’d hit the jackpot. Rudy speaks with a vaguely British accent and is a regular Clifford when it comes to finding the best fashion week footwear. Watch him strut his stuff in front of the tents, as he intrepidly head out into the fashion wilderness in search of kibble and a fresh pair of pumps. [Refinery 29]

Kanye On DONDA

Anyone who has ever dabbled in granola pursuits can attest to the comfort of Birkenstocks. Yes, they are a pleasure to wear, but what they are not is stylish. It shouldn’t even be a question: unless you align yourself with a crunchier crowd (and there’s nothing wrong with that), Birkenstocks have no place on your feet. I guess what I’m trying to say is that Birkenstocks have no place in fashion … but if Phoebe Philo says otherwise, it’s probably in my best interest to step back. The Céline designer, beloved for her airy, streamlined silhouettes (and to-die-for handbags), designed a Birkenstock-esque flat sandal with a decidedly un-hippie mink lining, priced at €700 (close to $1,000). That’s a lot of cash for a glorified Jesus shoe.

But in a true testament to high fashion’s ripple effect, the latest issue of British Vogue features a pair of classic white Birks, and the same shoe was spotted on the runway of menswear duo Agi & Sam at London Fashion Week. Will we be seeing a resurgence of this particular footwear previously favored by the hackysack set? It’s possible, but I just can’t imagine society tastemakers like Anna Wintour giving them the sign-off. I do, however, peg Kanye West as the next to sport the shoe. Just you watch. [Guardian]

“I need style advice! I’m getting married this summer and all the wedding shoes I’ve found are horrible. They’re mostly these weird cheap looking silver strappy things that are way overpriced. The only cute ones I can find have high heels, but I’m tall (5’10) and my fiancé’s not much taller and I don’t want to tower over him! Do you have any suggestions for low-heeled shoes that would be cute with a wedding dress but also rewearable later (especially if they’re on the expensive side)? Maybe a couple of white/silver options as well as some color?” –Betsy

Dear Betsy,

After spending the last couple hours wading through pages and pages of atrocious wedding shoes, I’m starting to feel your pain, but I still think we can find you the lovely low heels of your dreams. I found 9 options in a pretty wide variety of styles, colors, and prices. Check ‘em out after the jump, and if you’re a fellow tall bride with low-heeled suggestions for Betsy, please share your wedding shoe wisdom in the comments! Look at this model. It’s like she’s saying, “I’m a sad, sexy clown! I’m a pouty mime!” Plus, she’s got these stupid platform shoes-cum-skis on her feet. And yes, the models were required to somehow get down the runway in these monsters. Gianni Molaro — the wizard behind these looks — exhibited his collection as part of the Alta Moda Alta Roma fashion week, aimed at giving young and upcoming designers exposure.

We really couldn’t get over these weirdo ski shoes, so we’ve collected a bunch of other shots from the collection, after the jump.

Help! Do Comfortable High Heels Exist?

Mirror Mirror: High Heels
Kate contemplates really high heels. Read More »

Last week I was wandering the aisles of Nordstrom Rack and found the cutest pair of blue suede Franco Sarto pumps (shown above). When I slipped them on, they fit my feet perfectly and felt shockingly comfortable thanks to a bit of padding in the sole and a relatively low heel, at least compared to the 5-inch monsters I always accidentally buy and then never wear. I thought I had finally hunted down my white whale: a pair of heels that were cute and comfortable, but then I wore them over the weekend, and after about an hour, I wanted to DIE. Seriously, my feet are still aching, and now I’m feeling hopeless about the existence of truly comfortable high heels. So let’s talk this out, shall we? I would love to hear about any brands you love, or random tips for making uncomfortable shoes more comfortable. Do my feet just need to get more accustomed (and by “accustomed” I mean numb) to wearing heels? Are you one of those people who wears high heels every day? How in God’s name do you do it?!

After the jump, check out other Frisky staffers’ picks for most and least comfortable heels, and please (pretty please) share your own in the comments! Keep reading »

I understand that as a shoe designer, you have a limited number of shapes to work with. A foot is a foot is a foot, after all. But for the love of Michael J. Fox, please don’t ever let this weird shoe hybrid happen again. It’s as if the two competing footwear trends for mid-’90s sorority girls — the platform flip flop and the Mary  Jane stiletto heel — have been somehow Frankenstein-ed into one completely horrific shoe monster. These Celine mink heels are from the brand’s Spring/Summer 2013 collection — and they are giving me the major creeps. Designed, apparently, out of Muppets the designers trapped and killed, these heels come in an array of blinding hues. Celine designer Phebe Philo doesn’t usually go so extremely, crazily wrong, but these heels are offensive for animal lovers, Muppet fans, and people with any sense of taste.
