Dear Wendy: “I’m A Lesbian Magnet!”

It’s time again for “Shortcuts.” For every question, I’ll give my advice in three sentences or less, because sometimes the answer to a person’s question is so obvious and the need to hear it so great, being as clear and frank as possible is simply the best way to go. Today we discuss being a lesbian magnet, former chat buddies, and overly flirtatious boyfriends. Keep reading »

Dear Wendy Updates: “Snoop Dog” Responds

It’s time again for “Dear Wendy Updates,” a feature where people I’ve given advice to in the past let us know whether they followed the advice and how they’re doing today. After the jump, we hear from “Snoop Dog,” that guy who “just happened” to guess the password to his girlfriend’s email and discovered she’d been emailing back and forth with an ex. “The emails aren’t really all that exciting,” he wrote, “just things like ‘how are you doing?’ and updates on people they both know and general stuff like that. I’m not sure what to do here. Should I confront her about it?” After the jump, find out whether he confronted her or not and if they’re still together. Keep reading »

Girl On Girl: I Remembered That Some People Still Hate Us

This month, the world went crazy. I don’t know if you noticed it where you live, but in my corner of the world—New York City—gay bashing and hate crime violence seemed to skyrocket. Then, two men were arrested for attacking a gay man in the bathroom of the Stonewall Inn, one of my favorite gay bars and the birthplace of the gay rights movement. Keep reading »

Dear Wendy: “My Fiancé Doesn’t Want Kids, But I’m Undecided”

I’m 24 and engaged to a fantastic guy I love a lot. He doesn’t want to have kids, though, which I’ve known all along, and I’m undecided about them. If my fiancé wanted kids I’d have them, but how can I know if I’ll eventually want to have children myself? P.S. I am really good with kids. — Not Sure About Children

Finding True Love Is About As Likely As Getting Kicked In The Head By A Horse

While the bell curve is used to organize data for things that have already happened (that chemistry test that most of the class got a “D” on), the Poisson curve, originally developed to measure the likelihood of getting kicked to death by a horse during battle, predicts things that we either fear or hope happens, like, for example, finding love. Writer Michael Kaplan compares the likelihood of certain horse death to finding true love in one’s life in an article in the Pittsburgh Post Gazette. Statistically? The chances are very, very rare. What Girlfriends Does Every Girl Need?

My mom always said that there are three kinds of friends in this world: friends for a reason, friends for a season or friends for life. (My mom loves rhyming advice.)

Lately, in the age of 500-plus Facebook friends, it’s a question everyone seems to be asking: Is real friendship dying? Which relationships really matter? And is it better to have one BFF — or an army of acquaintances? Read more Keep reading »
