Girl Talk: My Bully Was My Best Friend

I met Rebecca when I was eight and forced by my parents to join an AYSO soccer team called the “Killer Bees” because my mom thought it imperative that even scrawny girls who much preferred watching late night re-reruns of “Star Trek: The Next Generation” should get out and enjoy bitter winds of Chicago fall on the lakefront.  Early on, my feminist mother had adopted a policy that my brother and I had to do the same extracurricular activities, a policy that sometimes made me the only girl at a football camp or meant that both my brother and I had to take carpentry lessons.  In this case, my six-year-old brother had become a soccer fanatic overnight and I had landed in a pair of golden knee guards. (To this day I consistently get panic attacks when someone  peppily utters the phrase “Shake it Off!” ) Keep reading »

Meet The World’s Oldest Newlyweds

It took Rose Pallard a long time to commit to her boyfriend, Forrest Lunsway. Thirty years, in fact. The two had been together that long when 90-year-old Rose finally agreed to marry Forrest—on his 100th birthday. The two tied the knot in Southern California on March 19 in a joint wedding and centenial birthday party. And while they might be the oldest newlyweds in the world, man, do they still have some moves. After all, Forrest did get down on one knee and ask for Rose’s hand in marriage without any issues. Rose’s advice for making romance last? “Be forgiving and patient and say ‘I love you’ every once in a while,” she explained. I also think these two are poster children for lookalike couples—they have almost identical faces. [Buzzfeed] Keep reading »

Debate This: Advertising For Love On Facebook

Matt Simpson of Tempe, Arizona is willing to go the distance to find the woman of his dreams online. Because he finds dating sites to be overcrowded and shallow cesspools where women get bombarded, he decided to take a more original approach to increase his odds of finding love. At a cost of $0.75 a click, Matt started his own Facebook ad campaign in which he describes himself as an “active, aware 30-something seeking a balanced woman like you.” He set his campaign to target women whose profiles indicate an interest in yoga, meditation, and New Age books. You can click on his ad to be sent directly to a profile where you learn more about Matt. Keep reading »

Give Mom The Gift She Really Wants This Mother’s Day

Child: Hey mom, I got you something really special for Mother’s Day! Here are some Mr. Clean products for you so you can get back to the job that really matters to you — cleaning the house.

Mom: Oh thank you, honey! I can’t imagine anything that I would enjoy more. I didn’t want to hurt your feelings, but that day at the spa you were talking about treating me to sounded awful. [Buzzfeed] Keep reading »

This Kissing Device Doesn’t Do It For Me

I don’t care if it feels like kissing. I have no desire to put a motorized straw in my mouth and pretend like it’s a human mouth. This kiss transmission device, which uses computers to simulate the way a person kisses down to their taste, breathing, and moistness of the tongue, is very ingenious, but very unnecessary in my opinion. Kissing is one of the few simple pleasures in life. It is perfect just as it is. I say, if it ain’t broke, don’t digitize it. How about you? Would you kiss this thing? [Buzzfeed] Keep reading »

The Love Guru: Now I Know What “The Bachelorette” Feels Like

I walked into the restaurant and spotted Old Flame sitting at the bar sipping a beer. He looked better than I remembered and when I hugged him I felt a stirring in my nether regions.

Near the end of a dinner filled with laughter, Old Flame’s hazel eyes turned serious. He reached across the table and gave me an unexpected kiss on the lips. It was soft and sweet. No tongue. Keep reading »
