Where Single Men Way Outnumber Single Women?
I’ve been doing a lot of navel gazing lately, wondering why so many women I know in New York City are hot, smart, fun, successful…and still single. Myself included, of course. And why are all my friends in Cali scoring great dudes? A new “Singles Map”of the USA has solved these mysteries for me—in New York, single women outnumber single men by more than 210,000. Meanwhile, in California, single dudes far outnumber the single ladies. So is it time to start a new gold rush?
Some other things this map reveals: that perhaps the state of Florida isn’t so bad after all—in every city but Miami, there’s a plethora of single men and not enough women to go around. Dallas, Las Vegas, Denver, Minneapolis, and Los Angeles also are good bets. The bad news is really for East Coast women—basically, we are effed cause single women outnumber single men by a margin varying from 20,000 to 300,000 per city.
I think this map was one of the most enlightening explanations about singledom, ever. Screw that “childhood wounding” garbage, it’s all about statistics. So what are ambitious, single, East Coast ladies such as myself supposed to do? Move? I came to New York for career options and culture, and I always thought (maybe erroneously) that if I followed my dreams, worked hard, and enjoyed my life, the dude would follow. Maybe not?
How does your city stack up? And would you consider relocating for love? [Boston Globe]

I’m in LA and I agree that there are more men than women, BUT the men I meet, I just can’t seem to like them very much. Maybe i’m too picky, but I just can’t seem to find a normal one, & by that I mean, at least have a job and a car. ONLY, thats all im asking for, you dont need to have a 401K or own property. I just seem to find these little boys who are still obsessed with Michael Jordan and buying sneakers. I know we’re young, it’s cool, but have some priorities people. LA is supposed to be singles galore, but I mostly see perv and losers galore.

Travel west, the landscape is as beautiful as the men. Nearly every bbq and/or party I go to is a sausage-fest of firefighters, mtn bikers, and rock climbers. Not every girl’s bottle of beer, yes I am well aware of that. But if you’re looking for hot, fun single men and a goregous setting ... venture west! At least for a vaction, if nothing else.
There’s plenty of career options and culture in some of those big golden circles - after all, NYC isn’t actually the center of the universe, you know.

Just another reminder of why I need to return to California from the East Coast.

I live in Orlando, FL, and you can trust me, we have a TON of guys to go around, but most of them are either idiots, losers, or gay.

I like my odds and cost of living here in Louisville, KY.

This is really weird. Why did the country split up boy/girl somewhere in the midwest?

I live in Southern California. All I can say is QUALITY over quantity….you wouldn’t WANT most of those “men who outnumber women” out here.

@ksdancer seriously. The problem is, the guys here in Los Angeles aren’t mature enough to handle the super-awesome-successful-smart women that are here. They’re stuck (I’m generalizing of course, not EVERYONE is like this, but it seems to be in the majority) in this fantasyland where they expect playmates instead of girlfriends.
Most women I know say that once they get to a certain point in their lives and STILL can’t find a man, they’re moving somewhere where dudes have to GROW UP or SHUT UP.

Wait. Does this count for Gay Populations vs. Straight populations of Men?

Here in Las Vegas we have an abundance of the single men, and I’d be willing to trade a few with someone out east if they like house-men.

Having lived in both Honolulu and San Antonio I can honestly say a majority of those single men are military men. Nothing against the military but the ones I have come across while going out are either looking for an immediate wife or a one night stand. So while they may be plentiful, the quality isn’t that great for those locations.

I come from the only orange dot in Georgia…the only reason it’s that color is because of Ft. Benning. It is one of the largest Infantry bases in the world, and it’s getting bigger because of base closings internationally. So yes, lots of guys, but a serious quantity over quality issue.

I’m in Atlanta. It seems that I am pretty much screwed if I plan to stay in this city. Nice.

It’s very true that the odds are good but the goods are odd.
