Shocker: Women Eat Way Less When Dudes Are Around!

Women Eat Less Around Men

Admit it: When you go on a date with a cute guy, you don’t order a big, greasy quarter-pounder and a giant plate of fries, even if you really, really want to. A Canadian study has confirmed what we all know to be sad but true: Women eat smaller meals with fewer calories when dudes are around. Even chicks who chow down amidst both genders tend to go towards the lower end of the calorie scale. Basically, the more guys present, the fewer calories a woman consumes.

As usual, we can point our fingers (or tongues) at the diet industry. Girls feel self-conscious about gorging themselves because super-skinny models are everywhere we look. Sure, our society may have decided that it’s more feminine to eat like a bird, but if a guy isn’t attracted to you because you can house a hamburger, do you really want to date him, anyway? [Eureka Alert]

I’ve read a lot of op-ed peices and comments from guys who say that they ADMIRE the girl who is willing to order the double cheesburger she wants and finishes it. Get what you want! Just don’t order the biggest meal on the menu to try and impress and then find yourself unable to finish it. smile

Ha!  This clearly doesn’t apply to me at all.  The other day I was out at a bar/restaraunt with my boyfriend and his male friend, and when I was too stuffed to finish my burger I pulled it apart and ate the bacon out of it.  My boyfriend’s friend thought it was awesome.

I eat a lot of calories because I’m so thin and I work out a lot as a dancer, so when I’m with guys or my boyfriend, I will eat anything really. But I do eat healthy, so usually I just order a lot of healthy food, rather than gorge on unhealthy food.

@raugiel: Yeah, I could imagine that guys admire girls who order and eat what they actually want.

Well, I’ll admit sometimes I eat less around attractive guys, but only if there’s any hope of doing the horizontal mambo later- nothing sucks more than bloated sex.

I think this goes for both sexes. I’m less likely to stuff myself around women, and I’d think both people would tend to be a bit nervous on initial dates and so would eat less.

What turns a guy on is that the woman eats as much as she wants (within reason), not necessarily that she eats a lot (unless that’s what she wants). In other words, sitting across from a woman you know is hungry but refusing to eat much of anything… that’s a turn-off. Sitting across from a woman who stuffs food into her mouth faster than she can swallow and then belches as food tumbles out… that’s a turn-off. But a woman who is confident enough to fulfill her appetite… that’s a very good thing.

It’s not what you eat and what you wear so much as it is that you feel comfortable eating what you eat and look comfortable wearing what you wear.

This does not apply to me. Many times we ate together at Fuddruckers and while eating my burger and fries, I stole his onion rings.

I think I actually eat more around my boyfriend. He knows I’ve struggled with body image and dieting for years, so even if I’m not that hungry I usually try to eat enough to keep him from pointing out that I’m not eating much. Plus, since he insists on paying every time, I usually care more about finishing everything than I would if I’d paid for it myself.
I also think I’m more likely to eat less if I’m with a bunch of girls who aren’t eating much, rather than guys. It’s no fun being the only girl with more than a salad.

Whoever wrote the article, did the study, etc, obviously is biased and did the usual ‘manipulate the data’ routine.  Do guys eat less when their woman is around?  NO!  Women eat just as much when their guy is around, as well.

Although this article definitely doesn’t apply to me (my boyfriend and I usually plan our dates around food), I can kind of see the truth of this.  I remember hearing a lot of guys complaining in high school that they would take a girl out to dinner, and the girl would only eat a salad.  And the day before Senior Prom, one of my teachers bought a box of doughnuts for the class, just to mess with us.  I and one other girl were the only ones to happily partake of them, while the other girls complained that they wanted one but couldn’t because they wanted to make sure they fit their dresses later.

I think this applies to me for first dates where I’m really attracted to the guy and around people I don’t know, regardless of their gender.  Not that I’m trying to impress, but I do become more self-conscious and kinda lose my appetite.
I try to eat healthy anyway, but if I’m really comfortable around someone, I’ll chow down.  If a date isn’t going well, I will also eat whatever and usually get a case of verbal diarrhea.. I guess it’s sort of like “who cares, what have I got to lose?” at that point.  Sad but true.
