Woman Dies Crash Dieting For Her Wedding

This is more proof that you buy the dress to fit the bride—you don’t try to fit the bride to the dress. Samantha Clowe, a 34-year-old woman in England, was always overweight, and was determined not to be a “fat bride” at her wedding. So she tried a diet program called LighterLife, which had her eating specially prepared soups, snacks, and shakes everyday for a total of only 530 calories a day for 11 weeks. She did lose a lot of weight. But then her fiancé found her collapsed at the top of the stairs in their house. He called an ambulance, but she was pronounced dead soon after from heart failure. So, so sad. And a cautionary tale. [Daily Mail]

Are people ever going to get it???  There is no quick fix people!! You have to change your lifestyle.  You can’t sit around and eat crap then decide “Oh sh*t, I’ve got an important date coming up and I don’t wanna be fat anymore, so I’ll just crash diet and I’ll look awesome!”.  Your commitment to your health should be something to consider everyday.  People are so stupid.  Sorry.

My friend’s fiancĂ©e died in a similar way. She had been bulimic in her teenage years, and in preparation for her wedding, went back to her old ways. She died of heart failure as well. So so sad. Even worse, it sent my friend into a downward spiral of alcoholism and who knows what else. Thank God he’s now doing better (and engaged again!), but if we could all just be happy with the bodies we are given (especially when your significant other proposed to you the way you are!!), it would save so much needless heartache. The goal should be a healthy body, not a pin thin one. *gets off soap box*

@GreenAura and @ginny:  I agree with you both.  However, in our Western world the emphasis is on thin.  It takes knowledge and to an extent courage to defy the standards of our society.

The bride may have been pressured by friends, family or other people to become the “pin thin, blushing bride” she saw in catalogues. I’ve heard tales of some of those bridal shoppes.

But at the end of the day people do what they (think they) want.  Most people are sheep and simply go with the flow.  Still a sad story.

We’re never happy with ourselves, are we?

In Mauritania, this woman would have been worshipped as a great beauty, and yet in her own country felt pressured to be a stick insect.

It’s too bad that we judge outer appearances so harshly.

Agree, GreenAura. There is no easy way to be fit and healthy. It’s a lifestyle. People who go through life gobbling down junk food and not exercising who are willing to do anything to suddenly reap all the benefits that come with living such a lifestyle are playing with fire. You can’t have it both ways.
