Will A Documentary Save Amy Winehouse’s Career?

Amy Winehouse

Amy Winehouse is trying to save her career, and she’s not resorting to posing nude for a magazine, having a baby, or starting a clothing line. According to People, celebrity interviewer Daphne Barak is making a documentary about Amy to be released later this year. A message on Amy’s official MySpace blog says “Saving Amy” is “a truthful and revealing look at her complicated life.” But will it save her career? Let’s look at two other documentaries focused on faltering stars.

  • Paris Hilton‘s “Paris, Not France” debuted at this year’s Toronto Film Festival to lackluster reviews. It deals with her life before she went to jail. It’s too little too late.
  •

  • “Britney: For The Record” aired when Britney Spears was promoting Circus, so she had timing on her side. Also, the doc made viewers feel for Brit. She seemed vulnerable and sad, but not a bad person at heart.
  • If Amy Winehouse wants to make the most out of “Saving Amy,” we recommend she release an album around the time the movie comes out. If she’s not going to produce a new record for three more years, opening herself up to ridicule will have been a waste.

Wonder how much they’re paying her for this? A good way to save her career would be to write another album and get back to being known for music instead of tabloid fodder.
