Whoopi Goldberg Doesn’t Like Rape Jokes
Sometimes it’s not what is said that’s funny but the reaction to what is said that brings on the LOLs. Take for example the subtle interaction between actress Sofia Vergara, from the new comedy “Modern Family,” and Whoopi Goldberg on today’s episode of “The View.” When the ladies mention that very young-looking Vergara has an 18-year-old son, she jokes that she had her kid when she was 13. “I was raped,” she giggles. Everyone else pretty much ignores her bad joke, but Whoopi’s face is priceless. Later in the interview, Vergara laments that since her son is going to college, she’ll be all alone for the first time in her life. “I need a man!” she exclaims. After watching Whoopi’s reaction to that line, something tells me she’s going to be enjoying a stiff martini with her lunch today.

Hmm, hypocrite much?
For a woman who thought what Roman Polanski did wasn’t “rape-rape” she sure has mastered the side eye this go around.

I majorly, actively loathe Whoopi Goldberg.

Okay, well, rape jokes AREN’T funny. Whoopi’s opinions and commentary aside, of course. The rest was funny, tho. And she does look amazing for a woman with a college-age son!

Worst explanation I’ve ever heard: “It wasn’t rape, it was surprise sex!”

Ugh, someone needs to donkey-punch her in her surgically-enhanced mouth. Hee Haw!

very bad taste of her to say that, guess she was just a little nervous. On another note I love her accent and always like hearing her speak.

I don’t find rape jokes funny either, but at least I don’t think there’s a difference between rape and rape-rape.

First thing I thought of was on par with Escape Hatch & H. Blue. I don’t really care for Whoopi’s opinion on anything having to do with rape.
Plus, I think she meant rape as in statutory since she was only 13. The bit of language barrier that still exists with her might have had something to do with that.

Umm while Whoopi’s rape rape thing was horrible why are we all forgiving this woman for joking about statutory rape? It’s basically the same thing we’re all mad at Whoopi for, diminishing the importance of rape.

Umm she’s from Barranquilla Colombia same place as my husband’s family and Shakira. The average age for a Colombian woman getting married was 22.6 in 1992, 22.4 in 1970. Crazy I know but not all stereotypes are true.

Wiki said she had her child at age 20. She’s 37, so she said she had him at 13 so people would think she’s 31? Horrible joke to take 6 years off your age.
Still, when you say things like “it wasn’t rape rape” and you don’t know that it wasn’t the same situation for Sofia (had she not been joking) I don’t really care if she’s offended.

@muchomacho: the “rape-rape” comment was about Roman Polanski having sex, aka statutory RAPING, a 13 year old. I wouldn’t want to meet someone that felt justified in arguing that that wasn’t “rape-rape”. Plus from the details of this story, the post, and dthe video it was clear she was trying to make a joke about statutory rape, not confessing about a situation in which she was 13 and had consensual sex with another 13 year old…......

didnt know thats what the “joke” was in reference to. i thought it was when she kind of giggled about being 13. my bad. and i watched the video. what you took out of it was not what i took out of it. it wasnt clear at all that she meant she was really raped. i could very easily see her meaning she had sex with another kid.
