Who Needs A Date To Go To The Movies?

There are a lot of movies I’d love to see that no one ever wants to actually watch with me, either because they think the movie is going to blow ("Beverly Hills Chihuahua") or because I want to go at inconvenient times and they just can’t (like right now, I have a hankering to finally see “Rachel Getting Married” and no one is answering my text messages, those bitches). That’s why I’ve gotten awfully used to go to the movies alone and frankly, I kind of prefer it to fighting for seats with a group of girlfriends. After the jump, five reasons why having a date at the movies, totally sucks.
Some girl friends and I were sitting around talking, the way ladies tend to do. And the subject of dating inevitably came up. Then the topic got around to movies, and mild shock registered when I disclosed the fact that I enjoy going to see movies alone.

I love going to see movies by myself! Then I can fully enjoy it without having to worry about whether my movie-mate is enjoying it or not.

I love going to see movies by myself for one simple reason - I like to sit at the very, very front, and don’t know anyone else who likes it too. For a few reasons:
-I’m short. Hence, it is really annoying when someone is sitting in front of me.
-If nobody is sitting in front of me, I can pretend I’m alone in the theater, and that’s awesome.
-It’s great when the screen takes up my whole range of vision. I love it when it’s all-absorbing and I’m not looking at the stupid haircut on the guy in front of me.

Oh My God!
Everyone always thinks I’m so weird for going to the movies myself. Thanks for proving that I’m not nuts.

I just LOVE going to the movies on my own!! I eat like there’s no tomorrow, and if the movie deserves it (and sometimes it doesn’t, but who cares) I cry like a baby or laugh my brains out. It’s so relaxing!

i love going to the movies alone i just hate the following: when people look at me with pity like ‘aw she’s alone’, when people much their snacks really loud while i’m trying to watch, when people next to me start making out/fondling each other and when 15 yrolds in saggy pants and tilted fitteds start eying me.

Speaking of going places alone, I went out to eat by myself the other night and struck up a conversation with a middle-aged couple at a nearby table. It was nice and friendly until at one point they looked at me sort of sadly and asked “Do you usually dine alone?” What century are we living in? Can’t a woman take herself out to a nice restaurant without being pitied?

I have been to a few movies alone myself - but no more! Because now I am a member of a movie meetup group. If you have never seen this website - you should check it out! http://www.meetup.com - almost anything you can ever wanted to do, there is a group for. It is how I met my current boyfriend. So come on people, get out from behind your computers, (and seeing movies alone) and meet some new friends!

Well i’m doing a paper on “why you shouldn’t go to the movie alone” And i see your points in this but i still think its better to go with freinds, or family because that way you can cry, and giggle together during all of the great, and not so great parts of the movie.
