Where Have All The Earrings Gone?
Last night as I was getting ready for a date, I sifted through my jewelry box, looking for something to accessorize my outfit. “Hey,” I thought. “Why do you never wear all these pretty earrings anymore?” I tried on a few dangly pairs, and promptly removed them—they really did change the whole vibe of my outfit. With some fancy vintage teardrop ones, I felt like I was coming from the opera. Gold medallion posts were pretty, but made me look a bit too grown up. I realized that I actually haven’t worn a pair of dangly earrings for about a year. And my friends? Not with any frequency that I can remember.
Looking at my collection, they just felt a bit dated and out of style. (Weirdly, not so much the earrings themselves, but how they looked on me.) What do you think? Do you reserve earrings for special occasions? Do you wear them regularly? Or are they a non-essential accessory?

I still wear large and/or dangly earrings as often as possible. If they jingle or make noise, that’s even better. I try to keep the rest of my jewelry and hair a bit more subdued to balance it out, though.

I can’t leave the house if I’m not wearing earrings! I have many of them, in many different styles, and my sisters are obsessed with earrings too so I can always borrow a pair if I’m not feeling good in any of mine. When I was little my grandma always used to tell me that a woman without earrings looks like a cat without ears, so I think I know where my obsession comes from…

I gauged my ears about 3 years ago and haven’t worn danglies since, just my plugs. But I started getting sad when I opened my jewelry box. So I just started wearing them again. I just loop them thru the area under my plugs (same hole). It actually looks kinda cute! Yay me!

Leo, I was just thinking that I need to go through my costume jewelry and get rid of my chandelier earrings. But I know the minute I do that they’ll be in fashion again.

I have a pair of diamond studs I got from my parents for college graduation that I pretty much never take out. But I’m also from the South, and traditional/preppy. The majority of girls I know down here for daytime wear the pearl or diamond studs during the day and then for going out do a lot of the drop or gold dangle earrings.

Earrings are essential. I spent several years in the military where I was confined to little metal studs. My big, dangly earrings are like a little expression of freedom every time I put them on
Plus, I don’t really like bracelets or necklaces.

Like, moonblossom said, earrings are essential. I was in labor and ran back up the stairs to put in a pair of earrings.
During the day I typically wear hoops, pearl studs, or my diamond studs, depending, but at night, I wear my dangling/chandelier earrings if it is occasion-appropriate.

I always wear earrings. I love the cute animals ones. I have purple frogs, pandas, penguins, goldfish… As well as your standard gold hoops and studs.

I don’t really wear anything in my ears aside from the diamond or pearl studs my ex gave me. Note: he may be gone, but I deserved those things and I am not putting them away. Mostly because I have a bob and my ears are covered as it is. I wear the showy jewelry in other places, rings with big stones, necklaces and bracelets depending on the outfit.

Earrings make me feel pretty and girly. I usually default to my little silver hoops, which I wear about 75% of the time. 20% goes to my other earrings, and the last 5% is when I’m especially lazy and just go around for a day or two without any earrings. I usually change earrings when a particular pair goes with the outfit I’m wearing, on special occasions, or just when I feel like it.
My favorite kind of earrings are simple but dangly earrings, like these (I actually own a pair similar to this, except they only cost me $16 O_o).

Since I tend to dress a little more on the casual side at work, I like to dress up my outfit with large, dangly earrings. Since the majority of my tops have an open neck and I’m very tall I feel I can pull them off, so why not?!
I tend to buy dangly earrings in traditional colors though - deep browns, black, silver - rather than bright and flashy colors so they don’t go out of style as quickly (and I can wear them with more!)

I wear the same earrings every day (unless I’m going out, then I might shake things up a bit.) I have 3 holes in each lobe; 1st hole has a pair of gold hoops, 2nd hole has my gold earrings with my first initial, and 3rd hole has my most sentimental earrings: a pair of diamonds that were made from a ring my late grandmother owned. I’m getting married very soon, and my diamonds will be my “something old”.
I’m willing to change the first 2 holes into some other earrings, but my diamonds stay put no matter what.

I don’t wear much jewelry besides earrings. Maybe a big chunky cuff. Never necklaces, so the bigger and danglier the earrings, the better.

I use to wear earrings, a necklace, and bracelets everyday in middle and high school (I was super girly-girl), now I only wear them for special occasions, not even to go out, just to like weddings and formal events. As a matter of fact now I usually have to go out and buy a pair when I want to wear them. I always say I am going to start wearing them again, because everyone I know practically wears them everyday, even my 3 year old niece, but not me. Now I might have to go find a couple of pairs.

Earrings are essential! There is nothing sexier than dangly earrings peeking out from behind hair next to a woman’s face.

I’m actually wearing a pair almost identical to the illustration!
I wear dangly earrings pretty often, at least a couple times a week. I’ll admit that right now it seems like most trendsetters are more about other kinds of jewelry so maybe I look a little dated, but I don’t care. It’s still pretty.

I love love love studs. They are so comfortable and non distracting. plus you can sleep in them. I have 2 holes so I prefer usually a small silver stud in the second hole and a more interesting one in the first. My favorite are a huggie type post earring with geometric designs cut out. If I want to wear a larger stud, theres not enough room for the second earring so i just take it out and rock it large haha

I always wear my “piercing” earrings (industrial, tragus) but not earlobe ones. I sometimes try to, because as people said above they do look nice… but they end up annoying me, then are taken out, then are lost in the bottom of a purse or the floor of my car, etc. I definitely make up for them in rings/bracelets.
