What’s Your Pedicure M.O.?

Heidi Pratt

Recently, Heidi Montag was spotted reading (yes, reading!) The Da Vinci Code (yes, an actual book, albeit a cheesy one) during her pedicure. It got me thinking: What is your usual pedi M.O.? Do you read the salon mags (that’s my go-to reading material—and I’ve been known to bring in an ice cream cone for a seriously awesome Friday night ... yes, I realize that’s potentially lame)? Bring your own book a la Heidi? Do you only read your own magazines from home? Are you typing away on the Crackberry? Or, do you actually stop, and take the time to close your eyes, sit and relax? I’m intrigued! Do tell.

I just sit and enjoy.  It’s one of the few times you can do that.

Yeah I usually just sit back and close my eyes, or at most look at the TV at the nail shop, since it’s so huge. I just try to relax and think/do nothing.

I usually either bring a book or treat myself to the expensive foreign language newspapers I don’t buy otherwise. I know it’s supposed to be a time to relax, but I’m awful at getting my brain to click out of gear, so brainfood I enjoy is my alternative.

Either I bring the book I am reading, if I think about it, or read their mags.  A few times I’ve wound up having conversations with other patrons and the pedicurist.

I read the New Yorker this past weekend while getting my nails and toenails done, but typically I’ll just leaf through one of the magazines there.

My mom and I always go together to get our nails done. We started when I was 12 and needed a pick-me-up from chemotherapy sessions—turned out, we got hooked. It became our monthly post-CHLA pamper treat. Now that I’m away at college, I still haven’t brought myself to go without her; instead, I save money and tradition by doing my own nails a la sleepover style. Both of us like to relax: I look at the silent Oprah on the salon T.V. and she falls asleep and sometimes snores. It should be embarrassing, but I just love her more for it! Whenever I get to fly in for a visit, it’s the first thing we do. Bonding, relaxing, and makes you feel oh-so-good! What could be better?

Since I don’t really like pedicures (super ticklish feet!), I only ever go so I can hang with my girls. We are usually on our iPhones or gossiping!

I chat with the lady who does mine - my mom, my sister and I all go to her, she knows my family, and knows what’s going on in our lives.  She’s also the only person I will ever let touch my feet.

I talk with the lady who does my mani/pedicures. She knows me well and knows whats happening in my life. As cliche as it may sound, we talk about everything. smile
