What’s Your Favorite Holiday Tradition?
In about two weeks, I’ll go home to Ohio for Christmas. In addition to the usual traditions—stockings on the mantel, Christmas Eve dinner with all my cousins, monkey bread for breakfast on Christmas morning—my sisters, cousins, and I will watch National Lampoon’s “Christmas Vacation” with my grandmother, just as we do every year. It’s a strange tradition dating back at least 10 years, and it’s one of my favorites.
In the comments, tell us about your favorite holiday tradition!

OH!!!! I was just talking about this with a girl at work yesterday and a boy the other night… My favorite guilty pleasure during the holidays is definitely Christmas movies!!!! National Lampoon’s will be watched about four times over Christmas Eve and Christmas Day at my family home, as will “A Christmas story”, “It’s a wonderful life”, “White christmas”, and of course, “Miracle on 34th st.” AHHHHH… I love Christmas!!!
It sounds kinda like I don’t do anything but watch Christmas movies, buy my stepmom and grandma won’t let me in the kitchen… hahaha

I’m Mexican so we do some old school Mexican traditions like make Tamales all day.lol. Its worth it, in the night time when you eat your 5 tamales and sip your “champurrado” (its like our hot cocoa) Then we play some “loteria” its like a bingo game with pictures.
I have a bunch of little cousins, brothers and sisters, so you can guarantee I’ll be watching all the Disney Christmas movies..yipeee.

We’re Russian (did the name Vanya give me away, LOL?), and Christmas was banned in the Soviet Union pretty much until 1992, even though families celebrated in secret in their homes. We have some things we do that remind us when we used to live back in the old country, like make special breads and the 12-course dinner…those kinds of things.
But my favourite tradition is reading the lists that my husband and I make for each other of the little things the other has done that has made us fall in love all over again. He organizes his by month, is funny to me. But it’s so sweet to read them, even when the entry is something kinda dopey like “12 January - made my favourite meal even though she hates it”
However, drinking the homemade Vodka and canoodling together after the kids are in bed and everyone’s gone home is a close second!
