What Does The Row Look Like, Really?

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen

Between Mary-Kate‘s bag-lady hippie style, Ashley’s newfound sophistication, and those fun-in-a-traumatic-way memories of the Tanner twins, it’s kind of hard to think of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen as legitimate, serious designers. Perhaps that’s why we’ve more or less ignored The Row since its launch a few seasons ago. But, all of a sudden, every big fashion person and their mother, from New York Times fashion critic Cathy Horyn to Barney’s New York director Julie Gilhart, can’t sing The Row’s praises loudly enough. So we’re finally listening. And kicking ourselves for being dismissive for so long.

We browsed The Row’s early fall offerings on Barney’s site and, though pricey, we now understand why everyone’s saying their sales will jump 30 percent this season. Check out a few of their classic-cool best pieces after the jump. Could they actually be celeb designers that we’d want to encourage?

I looove the biker jacket and the sheer long sleeved dress, I have the AA version in short sleeves. I thought it would look cuter with longer sleeves though, and here it is!

their m.o. seems to be well-done, simple, classic garments. which, when most celebrity designers seem to think that gimmicks are what MUST sell, is really refreshing. maybe it’s the fact that their clothes are so normal, despite their completely polar opposite dressing styles, is what makes their line actually desirable. i don’t have to look like a hobo-chic bag lady to be “dressed well” by them!

Meh x3. IDK, maybe I’m just cheap, but I’d expect to get something prettier for those prices… like, something that comes in more colors than charcoal and would flatter ‘curvy’ women.

Since my days of being a “Full House” fanatic back in 1997, I have been a serious fan of those two. However, from what I have seen of their line, seems original. I see a lot of places that I could wear what they have designed, but none of it pops out to me as something I would notice on the street and say “I need that girl’s shirt”.

From the way those two dress i’d say the row looks something like death row.

I’m with the “meh” on this one.. and what’s up with all the sheer?

@Sam..  ha ha.  curvy women?  think who’s “designing” here.

The collection looks like every other designer’s Fall offerings. Underwhelmed.
