We Knew This Was Coming: Vanessa Hudgens Will Play Nude Hooker In New Film
Like every other starlet in the world, Vanessa Hudgens has chosen to go nude in her latest, um, film project, Sucker Punch, where she’ll be stripping down to her skivvies or less. “I’m playing a character named Blondie and it’s set in a brothel in the 1950s, so there’s not a whole lot of clothes,” said Hudgens. Sure, sure. “I think this is my time to really step it up and get to grow up. It will be somewhat different with the content and a few more foul words…” Kudos to the Disney princess for taking the big step to shed her little girl image and stuff. But couldn’t she have found a more original route? So many actresses stripping, so little time. [Metro.co.uk]

so growing up means shedding your clothes off? if she wants to prove herself as a serious actor, there are a whole lot of serious roles out there
not that im against nudity (especially if it includes orlando bloom =9) but i dont think this will help her step into the serious actor category =/

What do some film stars call taking your clothes off for the camera? Oh yeah…! Career suicide!!
Bye bye Vanessa…

I don’t think it’ll be career suicide in any way. Many many actresses have gone topless in films without much of an adverse effect (men go topless all the time, but of course that’s irrelevant).
The following women have, in fact, won Oscars for roles which included some or complete nudity:
Glenda Jackson in A Woman in Love (1970)
Jane Fonda in Klute (1971)
Faye Dunaway in Network (1976)
Jane Fonda in Coming Home (1978)
Shirley MacLaine in Terms of Endearment (1983)
Marlee Matlin in Children of a Lesser God (1986)
Jodi Foster in The Accused (1988)
Holly Hunter in The Piano (1993)
Jessica Lange in Blue Sky (1994)
Helen Hunt in As Good as It Gets (1997)
I an not in any way suggesting that Sucker Punch will be Oscar-caliber. I’m saying only that going topless hasn’t seemed to have hurt good actresses, and the bad ones who need to go topless to get a part… wouldn’t have had much of a career anyway.

@Humble Bee: Yes, but we haven’t seen them lit by a cinematographer and in motion. Surely, that’s worth the price of admission.

@Pamela “but i dont think this will help her step into the serious actor category “
How do you know? You haven’t seen the script and don’t know anything about the movie other than what you’ve read here. How could you possibly formulate an opinion on what it will do to/for her career? lol

@ppmao: Yeah, I’ll be sure to hop right over to that site. I’m happy to see you’ve done an excellent job of marketing, as there are many here who want hot rich women. I mean, it’s not like it’s primarily a site for single women.
@ExGirlfriend: I wouldn’t sweat it. If she’s not arousing, no issue. If she is, he’ll want to work that off with you. In the end, as mentioned above, it’s just breasts on the screen.

If flashing your naughty bits and saying bad words makes you a credible actress, Paris Hilton would have gotten the respect she seems to think she deserves as a performer a long time ago.

Like Jamie Lee Curtis, may she live long enough to regret this. If you wish to be accepted as a mature artist then go away and grow up. When you reach the age of maturation (not calendar years mind you) come back and prove yourself.

i am so tired of these young musicians/actors thinking that taking their clothes off will make people take them more seriously and will skyrocket their careers. in MOST cases, it does the oppposite.
and she still has a lot of young fans out there from her work with disney. this is not a good, positive message to portray to them.
just my two cents.

I can’t think of many instances where nudity had much of a proven effect, positive or negative, on a young actress’s career. Many talentless actresses never went anywhere even without nude scenes, many talented actresses went far after having nude scenes, and most actresses went as far as they would have gone regardless of their penchant for nude scenes.
However, many actresses have been able to make substantial sums of additional money by doing topless/nude/sex scenes. And if you’re young and attractive and a studio is willing to pay you to not wear clothes, why not? For example, Halle Berry made millions for an utterly gratuitous - seriously, it added nothing to the plot whatsoever - five second topless scene in Swordfish and then went on to win an Oscar for a movie released the exact same year.

@Phil In Reno: I, um, meant millions of, er, dimes. Which it was. But yes, to pull down half a million for what could not have been more than an hour or two of work no matter how many times they shot the scene… it would have been insane to turn it down.
I’m waiting for a single example of a promising star who ended up failing miserably in her career because of a nude scene.

of course men would encourage it *rolls eyes*
its not just nipples, young stars need to have more respect for themselves than that. and they need to think about their young fans that look up to them. i just dont think its okay.

@hellosunrise: What, really, is wrong with it? If Zac Efron could make some money showing his wares in a movie, I’d be fine with it. I don’t see how this has anything to do with respect for oneself. Yes, if the movie is otherwise horrific, fine, she’ll have made a bad movie. But I still don’t see how being totally or partially nude in a movie is a bad or shameful move.
No one seems to be able to provide any reason as to why it’s bad. You yourself argued that they think it’ll help their careers, but “in MOST cases, it does the opposite.” I challenge you to name one actor or actress who had an otherwise promising career, then destroyed it with a nude scene. That’s entirely different, of course, from actors or actresses who were pathetic, did a nude movie, and remained pathetic.

@hellosunrise, what *exactly* is it about appearing nude in a movie that says it is “disrespecting” themselves? I don’t get it. There’s nothing wrong with a naked human body (even though you and others seem to think there is). I fail to see how getting naked to create a piece of art is remotely disrespectful of anything. Jeez.
And, I hate to break it to you, but people get naked every single day, especially when it involves sex, which is what a movie about a prostitute is going involve. If someone made this movie and there wasn’t nudity in it, it’d hardly be reflective of reality.
All of you nutjobs who have problems with nudity need to get over yourselves already and stop this ridiculous crap. Maybe their “young fans” will get the idea that there’s nothing wrong with a naked human body, rather than being “offended” in some way like some of you seem to be. That’d be a positive in my book. Ridiculous prudes.

While, I wouldn’t go on to call people who think this isn’t the *best* choice for her career a “ridiculous prude” lol, I would go so far as to agree that some people may be overreacting a bit. Whether or not this is good for her career is *impossible* to tell based upon this little tid-bit of info. and as alexa pointed out, it *IS* a movie a/b prostitutes, lol. And as for hellosunrise’s complaint a/b her younger viewers, it’s neither her, nor the studios responsibility to censure her work for younger viewers. If a parent feels like seeing Hudgens’ breasts are going to be a bad influence on their child, then it is that parent’s responsibility to ensure that their child does not see the film. To bash a young actor/actress for choosing to do a part that may not be suitable for all viewers just b/c they have a mickey-mouse past is pointless. That’s just my 2cents anyway

@sam, that wasn’t directed so much at those who say it may not be the best choice for her (though who are they to presume to know such a thing? They should manage their own careers and let Vanessa make her own choices.), but rather those who claim it is “disrespectful.” To believe it is disrespectful, you have to believe, by default, there’s something “wrong” with the naked human body. And that’s the basis for the prude comment. It’s sad that we’re in the 21st century and people still find shame in nudity.

@alexa: I totally agree with it being sad that people still find shame in nudity… however, it kind of seems like you’re missing part of the “disrespectful” point—I think that some ppl find it disrespectful in the sense that the way the article was written (at least this is how I took it anyway) it makes it seem as though young actors/actresses are told that the only way they’re going to boost their careers is to do a nude (or partially-nude) scene… whether they’re actually *told* this or just believe it to be true, is disrespectful—not being nude in general

@sam, while I agree with your point about how the article was written (I mean, “Like every other starlet in the world…” Please), hellosunrise’s comments had nothing to do with the way the story was written (as have the comments of a couple of other folks). And, even at that, the story reflects on the author, not the actress.

I do not see a career suicide for Hudgens to strip down like all so many actress’s before her. those that think is suicide, don’t have a great body to show off. with Hudgens, MY GOD, what a body. :D
