Was Model Ruslana Korshunova Killed For Her Hair?

When Vogue cover model Ruslana Korshunova was found dead in 2008, having apparently jumped out of a ninth-story window, police were quick to call it suicide. There was no sign of struggle in the model’s New York City apartment, and it was clear from her journal entries that she was severely depressed. Now, however, new evidence has come to light, reports the Russian news source Pravda, that may point to a sick-o murder involving a hair fetishist.
Korshunova was known for her super long hair. She had modeled for Pantene and was even nicknamed the “Russian Rapunzel.” But, apparently, before her death her hair had been chopped off in a ragged manner, something the police had chosen to ignore. Muhammad Naqi, the concierge in Ruslana’s building, has now voiced a testimony, speaking of the day after he saw her crumpled body on the sidewalk: “Only next day I realized what was wrong. It was her hair! It was much shorter than when I last saw her that night, lively and happy. It seemed like it was cut in a hurry since the ends were uneven.”
Could it have been an edgy cut she’d had done for a photo shoot? No word on if the cut hair was stashed or hidden on the crime scene, but such a revelation could point to a common psychological trait of certain murderers who claim their victims’ manes. Perhaps someone literally would “kill to have her hair”? Seems like a potential rumor to us, but either way, it’s so sad. [News From Russia]

Hmmm… If she really was depressed, she could have cut it off before she died. I heard that she told her mother that she didn’t want to model anymore, so maybe she was depressed and she cut it to free some emotion to get away from her signature (hair). If that makes sense… Like she did it before she died, either because she was sick of being the model or because she didn’t care anymore since she was going to die.
Very sad, though. Whether it was suicide or not.

Wouldn’t the hair still be there in the apartment building if she cut it herself? You can’t exactly flush it down the toilet, especially with Russian plumbing. The pipes can’t even handle toilet paper most of the time.

I’m serious about the plumbing thing, though. Practically all homes have a separate water closet, and a trash can for the wipey-wipes. That much hair wouldn’t have even flushed.

Read the article. It says that the model died in New York City and not in Russia so your comments about the toilet system in Russia just aren’t valid. It’s possible that she cut it off herself if she was depressed about modeling and the media’s concern for her hair, but it is also possible that it was done by a hair fetishist, where the hair is seen a a trophey and is the object of sexual attention.That would make more sense…the killer could have escaped when the watchman went out to see the body.
