Vogue Gives Some Highly Questionable Style Advice

Sure, critics say Vogue has lost touch with today’s modern women, but uh, you kinda have to see it (via video) to believe it. In this edition of “60 Seconds To Chic,” host Louise Roe explores how to wear the winter boot. And boy, is it full of gems! There’s the batcrackers your-boss-will-think-you’re-insane first look that she suggests is “good to go to the office,” a screaming green fur Russian cap served up with the sunny, helpful, “Don’t be scared to wear a hat!” and, finally, bare legs and an evening dress paired with wild, ‘80s-style Sorrel boots for an ensemble that says you are a very practical girl. You’re also freezing to death. [Fashionista]

ok, the rest of the outfit aside, who would wear boots like THAT unless they were also wearing mom jeans and taking all the kids to soccer practice in the family Volvo?  seriously?  That’s VOGUE?

Did consuming mass quantities of cocaine never go out of style in the fashion industry?  How else do you explain this crap?  Oh wait, I know, corporate sponsorship.  Sorel may make a fine winter boot, but they are not the only boot manufacturer out there.

And really, if you live in an area where you need serious winter boots on a daily basis, you either carry shoes for the rest of your day in a bag with you or leave a pair under your desk.  Or rock your normal tall boots and just wear wool socks underneath.

@ BluenBlonde: I have a pair of boots like that, they are not italian whatever, but they look very similar to them. They are warm and provide good traction in the snow, so they don’t bother me.  However I would be laughed out of WI for pairing them with an evening dress and bare legs! Also they are not work wear, those are the kind of boots that you wear to get to work then take off at at the office for some flats or heels or something.  Yeah, Vogus is definitely out of touch, but then again Anna Wintour just turned 60, maybe she’s running out of freshness…

This is the worst advice, so not chic. Just crappy. I could do this womans job and do it better.

Apparently you’re not supposed to wear boots with anything that is actually warm… like pants.  I just don’t get this.

The first outfit wasn’t completely dreadful, but DEFINITELY not office-appropriate.  I think this is their attempt to make fashion “practical” for us normies, but all it tells me is that the Vogue staff truly needs to lay off the meth, thank you!

this isn’t actually advice from Vogue people, this is an advertisement for the boot brand.  disguising an advert as part of a magazine (or in this case, a magazine’s website) is nothing new.  its pretty obvious that this is an advertisement and not an actual feature.
