Video Game Allows Players To Rape And Force Abortions
Sure, we’ve seen other video games, like Grand Theft Auto, where players can sexually assault the female characters, but as offensive as that is, at least it’s not the objective of the game. But a Japanese video game called “RapeLay” has the sole purpose of allowing players to virtually rape women. The player stalks the female character in the subway station as she waits for the train—I’m already creeped out—and can virtually “pray” for a gust of wind to blow up her skirt and reveal her underwear. And that’s just the beginning.
Players can grope and fondle the female avatar’s body, and while she will always try to fight off the player’s attack, he will always succeed in raping her. If that’s not horrific enough, after raping her, the player can move on to raping the woman’s two virgin daughters. One of them resembles a girl of about 10 and, horrifically, you can see tears coming out of her eyes. “Sniff… sniff… I w-w-want to die,” is one of the comments she’s automated to cry. Are you pissed off yet? We’re not done.
One of the features of the games allows you to invite your friends to participate in gang-raping the girls. There is also the possibility that the female characters may become pregnant. If this happens, the gamer is supposed to force her to have an abortion. If the player doesn’t make her have an abortion, she becomes more visibly pregnant every time you rape her. And if she has the baby, the female character will throw you in front of a train. Dying is the only way the rapist can’t attack anymore and therefore, the end of the game for the player.
Naturally, people are in complete outrage over the game. Amazon and eBay had previously listed the repulsive “RapeLay” on their sites, but have since pulled it. The company that released the video game has also come out with “Battle Raper” and “Battle Raper 2,” however in those games, no pregnancy and abortions were involved in the already disturbing concept. Even the video game cover is horrific. It depicts one of the siblings trying to protect her tearful sister from outstretched hands of someone coming to attack.
It should go without saying that the concept of this game is absolutely disgusting and deplorable. It’s sending a message that encourages rape and that there are no consequences for your actions. Video games are meant to be fun and entertaining. But if your idea of having fun is raping girls, even in a virtual sense, you’re a sick bastard. [Telegraph U.K.]

Thank you for bringing this to everyone’s attention, as disgusting and repulsive as it is. Is this what it’s come to? That there are people out there sick enough to not just create a “game” like this, but to purchase, play and enjoy it? I hope they all rot in hell.

Welcome to the F-ed up side of the world of Japanese pop culture. Does this really surprise you guys, knowing it comes from the same country that sells used girls panties in vending machines? I mean I’m a fan of Japanese art and culture, so don’t get me wrong, I’m not bashing the people. I’m just saying it doesn’t shock me.
“And if she has the baby, the female character will throw you in front of a train.”
A common way to die in Japan, believe it or not.

I’m not disgusted with Japan…I’m disgusted with the creator of the game, the people who buy it and the company that has invested in it and markets it…who may happen to be Japanese. The truth is that sick and twisted people live EVERYWHERE.
As we all know people will do anything for money. Anything. Even if it means catering to the scum of the Earth. This is, perhaps, the most shameful way to make money that I’ve heard of in a VERY long time. It makes me feel sick to my stomach.
I think the most disturbing aspect is that we have statistics proving the effect video games have on the psychosis of those who play them. If this is the direction we’re heading in, then what’s next? And what long term effects are games like this going to have on social interactions in the real world?
I’m saddened to find out that this even exists. I’m even more saddened to know that there are other versions of the same concept already in circulation. Really? Is this what we (as a generation and as a human race) are going to pass along to our children and our children’s children?

I can be safe in assuming that none of you has watched mainstream Japanese porn. This is such a prevalent thing in their society that they had to make “All womens” cars on their trains to combat the gropers. I #&@$% you not.

Only in Japanese culture? #&@$%. Play Grand Theft Auto; hire a prostitute, then kill her to get your in-game money back. Then tell me it’s Japanese culture.
This is what makes infringing upon the right to “free speech” so tempting for authorities. People abusing it.

It’s always nice to know the direction games can take when some ass hat that huffed too much paint has an idea. I don’t blame Japan, I blame those who decided that this game was a great idea to release. It gives me great pleasure to know that as a woman I live under the stigma that I’m good for nothing more than the concept of rape, assault, degradation and oh yeah, when I’m no longer good for sh*ts and giggles, murder.
Video game or not there are those out there that think this kind of behavior is acceptable towards women, I’m not an NRA lover, but I am glad that in these times I know how to use a gun.

Erin G, I could do that as well, but it would be a waste of my download ratio…I’ll stick to good ol’ fassion’ ‘merican porn, because it has better production and filming value as well as the girls don’t ‘yelp’ which is very annoying and off-putting.

This game is actually really easy - downloaded it the other week and it only took me about 7 hours to beat. The trick is to get the roofie power-ups and ski mask disguise. Battle Raper 2 is much better, IMHO; graphics are MUCH better, and the sound too.
Ok, that’s obviously a joke, but it’s interesting that such a premise pops up so often in Japanese entertainment media. I am familiar with the sex-segregated train and bus policies (mother worked for a Japanese company for a time), but how perverse some of the Japanese “stuff” can get is disturbingly impressive. While I admit it takes more than a swimsuit issue to get me going, material like this is so far removed from arousing that it makes me wonder: is the existence of this “good,” so that people so inclined have it as an outlet - as opposed to the actual crime - or is it just indicative of the further decline of civilization?

I think I might have first read about this on Jezebel, and I’m glad you guys posted this. I have nothing against Japanese culture as a whole, but some sects of Japanese fandom creeps me out… Like “Lolicon” genres. Ew.
Ironically, though, Japan has a pretty low rate for sexual assault.

(Before I say this, as a disclaimer, I must point out this is not a defense, just taking it all in context. Trust me, I’d want nothing more than to see this #&@$% banned.)
We have to keep in mind the real cultural differences between the US and Japan. While this video game is appalling to Americans, and we snap back with snarky remarks (which some of the above are hilarious btw), we have to keep in mind we’re judging the creators and the buyers of the game by American standards.
Japanese are far more a collectivist society. They are less concerned with one individual’s experience than we are here. In the US, you could potentially have a rape victim’s story on the news and the whole nation could be up in arms.
In Japan, however, its far more likely that the woman won’t even report it, let alone have anyone care. “She’s just one woman, who cares?” is the mentality alot of times.
I wouldn’t jump to say women’s rights in Japan are behind the US standard, but they certainly are not the same. This is why its less of an atrocity to the Japanese that this game exists. Fact of the matter is, rape fantasies are like a sport there.

ive always wondered what the reaction would be to a game of this nature. I did not know that a game like this already existed but i always thought it was only a matter of time. just like it is only a matter of time before someone makes a game with pedophilia.
the outrage that is expressed by the people here is predictable but raises questions about what our society’s moral standards.
there are countless games that have murder/ killing as the primary objective, and while those games certainly have their critics, i imagine this rape game would be opposed more than even the grand theft auto series.
but what does that say about our acceptance of virtual murder?
murder is punishable by death in many states while rape is not. it seems that our society views murder as more deplorable than rape. why allow a game with murder and not allow a game with rape?
and what about pedophilia? many consider it to be worse than murder but the legal system does not.
these questions come to mind:
what kind of sicko would take pleasure in raping someone for fun in a videogame?
what kind of sicko would take pleasure in killing someone for fun in a videogame?
also i think everyone can cool it with the ‘japan is sick’ stuff. humans are sick. there was a game which reenacted the JFK murder that was made in scotland. sick stuff comes from earth.

Ducksauce: I agree that humans are sick, but the reason this is more disgusting than the murdering in GTA is that when you murder someone in GTA, you don’t watch them suffer, or beg and cry for their lives. It’s pretty hard to imagine that you’re killing more than pixels, as you’re not watching facial expressions (no matter how unrealistic they are) or listening to them pleading to you for their lives, or deaths, as the case may be. Those things trigger emotions in people, where simply killing them and walking away from their (equally unrealistic) bleeding bodies doesn’t. This is the danger of a game like this.

this s*** is sick!
I know that Japanese culture has a facination with schoolgirls and youth, but dear god…
rape and abortion?
...I don’t care if you are pro-choice or not, there’s no reason to make a video game about it,
forcing a woman and the fact the pregnancy was caused by rape…nothing but sad and tragic
...and there’s no excuse to try to glorify rape
so goddamn wrong.
what they should do is make the creator sit in on some sort of abuse/rape counseling session, to see what pain would be caused!

BAD: that such a game could make it to the marketplace.
GOOD: that people are outraged.
So, what are you going to do about it?
For one, boycott “Illusion”, the game developers. What else? Write them, and any company that stocks their product, and let them know your anger. Make clear that you will never buy anything from their company ever again. The only way to stop this sort of crap is to hit these douchebags where it hurts them most: in their precious bank accounts.

@onebigvoice: The rape fantasy defenders are still here… I will always defend peoples sexuality as long as it legal and doesn’t hurt anyone else but themselves.
This game #&@$% sickens me, though. Consensual fantasies between two adults is their own business, but this game is a rancid piece of evil. You can say that all video games with killing/shooting are evil, but normally they are faceless people. The fact that this game involves things like the two sisters and the abortions just makes it even more sadistic. I don’t subscribe to the fact that video games make people want to do what the games portray - in fact, I believe the opposite a little - but this is just not okay.

@ Eden - That’s quite interesting. You support rape fantasies, but yet you’re opposed to the game. That makes no sense, UNLESS: what you insist on calling your “rape fantasy” is not REALLY a “rape” fantasy.
I tried to make this clear on the other discussion ( http://www.thefrisky.com/post/246-is-it-her-rape-fantasy-or-his/#When:21:30:00Z?eref=RSS ) but I will say it again.
What you are actually fantasizing about, and I have done this myself many times, is no-strings-sex-with-a-hot-stranger. It is perfectly natural for someone to be feeling horny, yes? It is also normal (if a bit lazy) to wish that you could just hook up with the next attractive person you see. This is NOT THE SAME as hoping to be raped, or hoping to rape someone! Therefore, it makes no sense to call it a rape fantasy. Especially because it is offensive to victims of actual rape. It is disrespectful to say that ... let me use an extreme example that will hopefully make this crystal clear. Do you think it would be appropriate for someone who likes to be spanked, by a german-speaking person, to say that they have “Nazi fantasies”?
