Lindsay Lohan’s Ungaro Debut Is An Epic Fail

“Shocking” is how the fashion world described Emanuel Ungaro’s Lindsay Lohan-influenced Paris runway show (and they didn’t mean it in a good way). Ever since the announcement of the actress’s appointment as creative adviser to the high-fashion house, everyone’s been loving to hate on the decision. And true, Miss Lohan does easily lend herself to criticism, not just because of her past, but also because of her valley girl knowledge of fashion, which The New York Times didn’t even need to comment on to capture:
“This is just so cool,” Ms. Lohan said, turning her attention to a white minidress splattered with sequins. “It needs more rhinestones, just so it pops.” Off to the seamstress it went. Pointing to another white dress, she said: “I call it Michelle Pffeifer in ‘Scarface.’ I was just in my office sketching for next season. I was here until, like, one o’clock last night.”
But the creatives at Ungaro knew what they were doing when they hired LiLo for the job, even admitting they were looking for sensationalism. In a way, it’s smart, because Ungaro gave fashion editors a golden opportunity to do what they love best: criticize. For the most part, they hated on the looks—loud sequined jackets worn shirtless with sparkly pasties, pop pink bandage dresses, and bandeau tops with bright, billowy pants. Yet we gotta say ... it could have been worse. Way worse. Seriously, if you’re going to talk about bad, you might want to start with the garish Jean-Paul Gaultier. It’s not all horrid. I like the first white dress, minus the accessories and I like the orange dress, minus the bedazzled jacket. More importantly I saw the close up shots of Lilo’s face at this show and even in the pic posted on here, she looks busted! I hope she gets herself together, cause pretty soon no one is going to want her walking down their runway looking like that.

ehh, it’s pretty bad. Have they not seen how she dresses lately? They knew what they were getting into when they hired her.

The woman on the left holding Lindsey’s hand doesn’t look too happy.

For me it’s all “Ewwww!” or “Okay but totally uninspired.” I would like to see a full pic of the skirt(?) in the 5th photo tho’.

@Jenbug: I was thinking that, too. I’m pretty sure that wasn’t a pastie. If it were, the model wouldn’t be pulling her top closed over it.

Bananas. And not in a Rachel Zoe way.

I think “uninspired” is a great way to describe it. Another word I might use is “Elementary.” It looks like the designs of someone who has no history, education, or talent in fashion. I can’t promise I could do better, but I’m not trying to pretend I am fashion designer.

its not that some of it isn’t cute. in fact it is, its just cute in a very Forever 21 sort of way. cheap, trendy, disposable, extreeemlyyy teenager-y. the fact that this line was shown at Paris Fashion Week is outrageous. i know everyone likes to make fun of people who take fashion ‘too seriously’ but to paraphrase my favorite line from Devil Wears Prada “its art that you live your life in”.
What may have seemed ‘garish’ at Jean Paul Gauthier to you was nothing short of amazing - whimsical and magical - to me. I’ll never understand what people get out of going to a museum and nodding in understanding at some abstract piece of installation art but i totally understand what Gauthier was doing with that show. Which brings me to my point: if you want fashion for the masses by all means head to Forever 21 or the Gap (i’m no snob, thats all my budget allows for sure!) but when we’re talking about freaking paris fashion week for the love of god, if you’re not a chef then get out of the kitchen. its like inviting paris hilton to be the ‘guest curator’ at the louvre.

One or two tube dresses that I liked, but overall, it was TACKY, especially the accessories.
@benlongley: I think the point of this article is, that the fashion industry is a big, serious business. LiLo was an investment, and Ungaro lost their money big time.

I think they need to feed this poor thing in the pepto dress.
