Twitter, The New Public Food Shaming Diet

You know how people say that being held accountable (to others, not just yourself, that is) actually helps weight loss? When you have to show up for a previously scheduled training appointment, you are way more apt to workout than if you just “try” to get to the gym every night. And when you head to, say, one of those Weight Watchers meetings, you are more likely to not overeat because once a week you have to face the music about your daily menus. Now, with the help of Twitter, some people are taking this accountability concept to the Nth degree—Tweet What You Eat, known to its users as twye, is the latest diet craze. The concept is simple: It’s an online food diary where you log absolutely everything you eat and drink. All you have to do is set up an account (or log in if you’re already on Twitter) and start tweeting away. The idea is that if you are forced to write down everything you put in your mouth, for all to see, you’ll think twice about eating that second (or third) slice of cake. Would you try out this online food diary? Or are you more private about your consumption? [Daily Mail]

I'm better about what I eat if I know other people are watching. Sad but true.

i actually think this may be a great idea for many people who suffer from compulsive tendencies. i'm specifically thinking about over eaters or compulsive shoppers. man... i sure would have a lot of extra cash in my bank account if i had to tweet every purchase i make!!

food diaries are great tools- i'm currently studying nutrition and it was one of our assignments. this twitter tool however is extremely dangerous!!!! it focuses strictly on calories, and low-carb diets are extremely bad and not conducive to a long-term healthy lifestyle!

I think it's a great idea. Not the thousands of people reading your food log but the fact that you can update it using a cellphone, you can transfer the data to a document, and it's easy to keep up with. I actually signed up to use it today and it worked well. I didnt like entering my starbucks drink but it should make me aware of extra splurges

I used a website called thedailyplate.com that has recently become part of Livestrong.com when I was dieting. I managed to go from 147 to 130. Keeping a food diary is a great way to lose weight, but a word of caution... don't forget to actually EAT! If you're just trying to keep calories low you might be depriving yourself of something. I know this for a fact, I did it.

How are members "forced" to post everything they eat every day? How many people who use this actually follow through every day?Anyway, this reminds me way too much of, when I used to frequent the TeenVogue.com forums, how there was a big group of girls who would compete to see who could eat the least on a daily basis and use it as a sort of "thinspiration." Obviously, it was very disturbing, and this is too similar for comfort.
