“Twilight” Producers Thought Robert Pattinson Was Too Fugly To Be A Vampire

It’s hard to imagine Robert Pattinson as anything but a total stud who makes us cream our panties. But lo and behold, when director Catherine Hardwicke presented her casting choice to Twilight‘s producers, those goons weren’t sure this vampiric hunk was Edward material! (By his own admission, RPatz had been “getting drunk for a year” before.) In an interview with Vanity Fair magazine, Hardwicke dished:
“[The producers] called me up and they literally said, ‘Catherine, do you think you can make this guy look good?’ So I said, ‘Here’s what I’m going to do. I’m going to get his hair back to a different color, do a different style. He would work with a trainer from now on. My cinematographer is great with lighting. He will study the cheekbones, and I promise you, we’ll make the guy look good.’”

Sorry, y’all, but he’s busted. Completely, totally busted. And besides, when Stephenie Meyer wrote her creeptastic, glittering control-freak Adonis, I don’t think she had Cedric Diggory in mind. Just saying, the guy does NOT look good.

He has that special “something”, obviously a good deal of the population agree with me
if it were not for his portrayal of Edward one can doubt the movie(s) would have had such a stellar following.
What that special something is…is his jawline. If you look at men who tend to be teen idols or ones that women have gone gaga over most of them have that chiseled, angled jawline.

@Pinky - One cannot make any such claim. Indeed, many people are crazy over him; you cannot say that this wouldn’t have happened with any number of similarly talented* and good-looking actors.
The fad would go on without him and you’d be pining for someone else.

Meyer’s wanted Henry Cavill cast as Edward, and pushed for it, but it was decided he didn’t look young enough to pull off a permanently preserved 17 year old.

Pattinson can’t hold a candle to Cavill.

I think Robert Pattinson is perfect for Edward. I can’t see anyone else in that role. He captures Edward in a way that’s unrivaled. And I know I wouldn’t mind running my hands through his disheveled locks. I like him.

How sad and two-faced is our feminist culture? We don’t want to write about women like this, so why do we tear apart men? From what I understand, he’s wicked smart in real life, plays multiple instruments, and is apparently willing to lose all personal freedoms for the sake of pleasing his (teenage girl) fans.

Robert Patterson didn’t look ANYTHING like the Edward I imagined while reading the book. He is supposed to be the most beautiful person Bella has ever seen and Robert is cute, but in his own way. not universal appeal. I also don’t like how he portrayed Edward in the movie! IDK if it was the director or his own doing, but in the movie he’s all illusive and creepy. In the book he’s charming and doesn’t reek of stereotypical vampire traits. I just hope that the next movie is an improvement on the first!

i’ve never seen twilight though. i’ve seen pictures and trailers from it and he looks terrible in the movie. although pale face and red lipstick probably doesn’t flatter any man.

When his hair is messy, he looks like a beast, not a sexy beast, but a really creepy beast.
Girls honestly don’t like him, they love the IDEA of him, his character. Why else would they refer to him as “Edward” 3/4 of the time and hardly fluttered their eyes when he was in harry potter.
Notes: his hair was better (normal) in harry potter.

@Ninjanimator: Don’t worry! There’s a totally different set of standards for real life people and over-rated celebrities. Also, some of him being a fug is that the character he’s supposed to be playing was written as the single most gorgeous guy ever to walk the planet. Which, frankly, Pattinson most certainly is not. OMG, so the producers and I finally agree on something! When I first saw him I was like, “THAT’S supposed to be the irresistably handsome Edward Cullen? Time for that good ol’ Suspension of Disbelief to kick in.”
He’s gross. Soooo gross. But… and I admit this reluctantly…. he plays the part well. I think he can act. Still, he’s gross-looking. No two-ways about that. And it wouldn’t hurt the man to eat a burger.

I agree LaceyH! These guys are insane! There is no way you can say this guy is not HOT!!! That kiss scene in Bella’s bedroom was so HOT and it was all because of HIM! He is an incredible actor, although I will agree he is a little strange in real life, I think it’s a cute kind of strange. I think he’s really shy in real life and has been thrown into this media frenzy and he’s just trying to handle it the best he can. I never heard of this Cavill guy so I googled him and NO he is NOT Edward!!! He is a nice looking guy but there is nothing unique about him. No way shape or form could he have pulled off Edward. He’s more of the Emmett type. Although I think Kellan Lutz was great.
