Is The Real Life Romance On “True Blood” Too Hot For TV?

True Blood Season Two Episode One

Last night, the second season of “True Blood” premiered and I could not have been more excited. I find it to be one of the sexiest shows on television, a true guilty pleasure, and the over-the-top acting and ridiculous plot lines make it even more sinfully delicious. And the center of the show are the characters of Sookie Stackhouse and vampire Bill Compton, portrayed by real life couple Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer. The two met and fell in love on the set, a fact which has injected a real, tangible heat to many of their scenes. For some this is not entirely enjoyable.

In Sunday’s New York Post, Maxine Shen writes:

“Watching Moyer (as Bill) stare hungrily at Paquin’s (as Sookie’s) half-naked and prone body before he shucks her skirt and underwear off in one swift movement feels uncomfortably wrong. Ditto for the scene when the two of them are joined at the groin. It’s hard to ignore the feeling that you’re watching the duo at home, in their personal bedroom, instead of in Bill’s dilapidated Bon Temps mansion. Ick.”

Perhaps I’m more of a voyeur than Shen, but I was positively gleeful when I found out that Paquin and Moyer were together in real life—Paquin may be an Oscar winning actress (for 1993’s “The Piano”), but the lustiness Sookie directs Bill’s way always seemed too real to be acting. Maybe I’m just hard up for lovin’ right now, but watching Moyer and Paquin get it on, knowing that they’re not faking anything in either of their groins, makes my living room feel about as balmy as Bon Temps. The first episode of this second season did not disappoint, as Sookie and BIll had hot, bloody makeup set. (Is Paquin, btw, trying to beat Kate Winslet’s record for onscreen tit-baring?) Bring on more of that vampire porn!

I’ve been getting into the first season of True Blood and I _loved_ the first Bill/Sookie sex scene. I didn’t know they were together in real life, but while I was watching it I was thinking what incredible chemistry they had. I thought about that sex scene all the next day. So hot!

i never knew they were together when i watched the first season, but as soon as i found out i was so excited to see how the off screen chemistry would translate onscreen in the second season…i thought last nights episode totally rocked…and their onscreen chemistry is amazing and i didn’t think it was weird at all…HOT HOT HOT

I thought it was a little too gratuitous myself. I’m pretty sure there’s nothing left of Anna Paquin to see.  Howeve, I might have felt differently if it were Eric as the other half of that couple wink

It is funny how people watch a show on HBO that has been very sexual from the start, and then complain about it.

Kind of like watching a Schwarzenegger movie and complaining when too many things blow up.

I’ll admit it, I’ve felt a little uncomfortable watching the sex in that show.  I dont know, watching people have non-loving sex is fun, watching people make love….weird.

I just started watching Season 1 out of curiosity.  I’m really not into the acting and it all seems pretty cheesy but all of that is okay because of the gratuitous nudity!  Yum.

It would probably get pretty awkward if they broke up.

Most HBOs have sex scenes like this- I don’t see what the big deal is.  I used to watch Tell Me You Love Me, and it was way “worse” as far as graphic content, but it was also very intense because the sex was supposed to reflect the relationship dynamic.

I find it to be hot, I think it adds more to their scenes together. There’s chemistry and then there’s the fact that they have a connection as an off screen couple, it all makes for a nice blend. Besides one has to wonder if the sex scenes they film are their foreplay and when the scene is called and cut, do they go hump like bunnies on the craft service table? Then there’s that whole, ‘your trailer, or mine?’ fun. Ah, I love that show.

The chemistry is great, so let ‘em have sex and bleed all over each other!  I love it!

Like the others said…it’s TV MA. You know what you’re getting into. Besides, if those two agree to put their lust on camera for the world to see, what’s wrong with that? If it’s too much for someone, then turn the channel. I think they’re hot, personally.
