The Top Ten Gifts Facebook Has Given Us
Facebook, the social networking site that has connected more than 150 million of us with people we wouldn’t recognize if we bumped into them on the street, turns five today! In honor of the big day, I’d like to reflect on the gifts that Facebook has given to us over the past five years. After the jump, the top ten gifts for which you can thank Facebook.
1. Now you know what your best friend in kindergarten ate for dinner last night.
2. Since you’ve been tagged in all those summer camp photos, your mom doesn’t have to drag them out to show your new boyfriend!
3. You found out that guy who broke your heart in high school is fat, bald, a cashier, has two ex-wives, and still loves Steely Dan.
4. Tagging all the pictures of yourself with hot boys makes it so much easier to piss off your ex-boyfriend.
5. Now you know 25 random things about all 8 of your college roommates.
6. No need for a real high school reunion.
7. Virtual pokes are almost as much fun as real ones.
8. You’ll never again forget a friend’s birthday.
9. That dude who sat next to you in 8th grade Earth Science class is always willing to chat when you’ve got insomnia.
10. Hey, you’ve always wanted 337 friends, haven’t you?

Hell yes to number six! Although after this girl from high school posted the most heinous photo of me from senior prom, I kind of wish I could see everyone from high school is person, so they could see how much cuter I am now…

I love #3 and all it’s extensions. Lately I have had an influx of friend requests from the “cool” kids from middle and high school who made my life a living hell and/or never even looked at me. They friend me, I accept just to see that they dropped out of college, work as a groundskeeper at my high school (true story!), drink like fish, and basically still live the lives they did when we were 16. I also give them a little time to see that I graduated from a great college, have a great job, live in a great city, and have great friends in addition to the few from high school that I still like. Then, I unfriend them. Ha, that’ll show ‘em!

Facebook has made me obsessive about folks I have crushes on…He wants to be Facebook friends, but once he stops calling, Im stuck checking his page every chance I get to see who I’ve been replaced with…

Oh, and Amelia, I’m also SOOO much cuter than I was in high school. I’m psyched for my 10 year reunion.

But Yellow, what’s so wrong with drinking like a fish?

Oh, I’m down for a good time, but nothing screams “I didn’t go anywhere in life” like a recently taken photo of yourself passed out with permanent marker penises drawn on your face in your mid twenties. And then keeping it tagged. Or tagging it yourself.

You can see all the above AND save rainforests and oceans just by sending 10 of your friends fake plants and fish?

I am totally guilty of #5…So I was avoiding work (and I completed the “Fill in the answer to each question with the next song playing on iTunes” Note also…I’m so uncool, but I still LOVE Facebook!!!).

Facebook allowed me to make all the losers from h.s. that made my life a living hell see how hot I’ve gotten since then. I went from a boobless stickpole with no shape, to hot curvy body (even as a thin girl) who takes sexy pictures and dates hot guys that none of those bishes could ever get.

Good to see I’m not the only one who enjoys the aspect of Facebook that allows you to instantly see what former classmates are currently doing with themselves ... For me, life has only gotten better and better (didn’t seem like it could have *possibly* gotten worse after hs, lol), is it wrong to feel guilty about wanting to show it off a little?
