Meghan McCain, 24-year-old daughter of Sen. John McCain, took to her column in the Daily Beast to declare “Don’t Call Me A Slut” after she posted a provocative pic on Twitter of herself late Wednesday night which prominently featured her boobs. “I have struggled to accept the fact that the way I look in a tank top comes off more ‘sexual’ than a flat-chested woman,” McCain wrote. “And once again I was reassured by the media that someone with my cup size should always be covered up. Or what, I’ll be seen as a slut?” The Daily Beast
Last week, freshman Seth Rudnitsky at the University of Maryland entered a dorm that was not his own and allegedly went into four different dorm rooms, groping female students who were in their beds. Rudnitsky allegedly woke the first woman up by trying to kiss her and trying to put his hands down her shorts. When the first woman screamed, he allegedly ran across the hallway to another dorm room and tried to kiss another female. The official report of the incident says Rutnitsky then entered two more dorm rooms doing the same thing that night. If the assaults aren’t bad enough, Rudnitsky’s lawyer made obnoxious comments to excuse his client’s actions: ““This is not a sexual assault case. You have a really good kid who has never been in trouble his entire life. It’s your typical freshman ‘I went out and had too much to drink and was being silly’ kind of case.” Ah, yes. Groping four different women in their dorm rooms…very silly. [The Curvature]
Today the FDA approved Cervarix, a vaccine for HPV, for use in females aged 10 to 25. The FDA also approved the use of Gardasil, another HPV vaccine, for prevention of genital warts (caused by HPV) in males ages 9 to 26. Both vaccines can help prevent against strains of HPV which lead to cervical cancer in women. [L.A. Times]

Lesbian student, Ceara Strugis, 17, is fighting to wear a tuxedo in her school yearbook. The ACLU issued a letter to Ceara’s school principal, demanding a picture of Ceara in her tux be published with all the other photos. Traditionally, female students wear “drapes” and male students wear tuxes, but honor student Ceara said in a statement “all I want is to be able to be me.” [Fox News]
Last month in New York State, State Senator Hiram Monserrate was convicted of misdemeanor assault for domestic violence against his girlfriend. Today Monserrate was cleared of felony counts which would have required him out of office. Nevertheless, he still faces up to two years in jail for assaulting his girlfriend and fellow New York State Senator Liz Kruger has called on her colleague to “resign immediately.” [[NY Daily News]

A gay rights group called Equality California announced plans for a three-year, $15 million Let California Ring campaign to educate people in the state about same-sex couples and gay marriage. The campaign will reach out to older Californians, people of color and faith-based communities. [McClatchy]
The UK’s government has been ordered to publish data about the number of late-term abortions in the next month. Lawyers for the Department of Health are arguing that abortion data is “sensitive, personal and private.” [BBC]

French President Nicolas Sarkozy has criticized the arrest of filmmaker, Roman Polanski, calling it “not a good administration of justice.” Polanski was arrested in Switzerland last month for a 1977 incident in which he gave a 13-year-old girl drugs and alcohol and then raped her. Polanski served 42 days in jail for the rape, but had been living abroad since 1978, when he fled the country on the day he was scheduled to be sentenced for additional time. Sarkozy’s complaint was that Polanski was arrested 32 years after the initial incident. [L.A. Times]
The step-uncle, stepfather and brother-in-law of a British woman have all been sentenced to jail time after she took the stand to say she raped her repeatedly over the years. When the woman told her mother about the incest, including how her step-uncle was the father of the child she had at age 14, her mom did not believe her. [BBC]

It’s called modesty you stupid slut. I’ve come to accept the fact that when I wear a tank top I look pretty boobalicious which is exactly why I know when and where NOT to wear them. I can tell you right now those giant pushed up boobs of yours Meghan were done on purpose so shut your pie hole.

Hiram Monserrate got cleared of the felonies, because he went for a judge trial instead of a trial by jury. I’m sure some his cronies called in favors to the judge behind the case (i.e. do you want to get elected again).
Here’s the video dragging her down the hallway after the incident Hiram drags gf
He’s also one of the guys behind the whole clusterfark up in Albany a couple months ago (switching to the Republican caucaus). He should also already probably be in jail already for the slush fund he had going as a city councilor.

Sorry, I’ve been following his stories for a while and he just give politicians an even worse name.

Uh, she was at home by herself for a night in. If she can’t wear a tank top then, when and where can she? I may not be as well-endowed or pretty as Meghan McCain, but I’ve done the same: I impulsively took some funny pictures of myself in a cheap ninja hood, completely forgetting that I was wearing a really skanky sleep tank, then posted them on the Internet. I was so preoccupied with the ninja hood that I didn’t even notice the skimpy top until some male friends commented on it. I bet it was the same for her - her intention was to show off the book, so she didn’t pay attention to her top.
Personally, I’m more offended by the anti-choice video, but that’s just me.
(also, theFrisky: the second to last story says “she raped her” instead of “they raped her.” Please correct it, it was really confusing

I don’t really care about the photo but she would have to be a real moron if she didn’t expect that kind of reaction from the American media and public. She did it on purpose and happy about the attention she’s getting… and really the only one making a really big deal about it is her… so… the whole thing is more annoying than sexy or provocative. She’s irritating. I don’t know her well enough to call her a slut.

She is clearly wearing a push-up bra under that tiny tank and she is posing provocatively; how can she be upset that she is being called out for what she is purposely portraying? What a hypocrite. It is not like when the media got all roused up over Hillary Clinton’s 2cm of cleavage during the campaign.

Hmm, could the problem at that high school be abstience-only sex education? “Struggling to address the problem” probably means that they’re thinking, “Well, gee, now I guess we actually have to teach kids what condoms are - that would make sense, since y’know, they help prevent pregnancy and all.”
Either that or it’s another, massive-scale pregnancy cult.

That pic of Meghan McCain is completely posed. She knew it was provacative from the boobs, to the facial expression, to the fall of her hair. I’d like to second Pinky’s comment.

I don’t give a #&@$% what she does, who she does or what she wears. But she is in the public eye thanks to her father, and she willingly rode those coattails into even an even brighter spotlight for her own benefit, so she needs to think a bit more than the rest of us before posting things.
So I won’t call her a slut, but I will call it like I see it: those are some damn nice titties.

This is really strange. Some guy at GWU in DC did the exact same thing in an undergrad residence hall about a week ago. He went into a dorm and started touching random girls in their sleep. There’s clearly a creepy-guys-who-like-to-grope club out there somewhere…

It seems like Megan McCain shot her pic with her web cam which makes her unawareness that much more questionable.

this is one of the few times that i find myself disappointed with the reaction of the frisky community…
i dont see why it matters that the picture is provacative? why is a woman’s chest so sexualized? men can walk around shirtless, and yes sometimes i find it quite attractive, but i would never EVER demonize the man or accuse him of sexualizing himself to me deliberately. why do we do this to a woman?
i am not really a fan of meghan mccain, seeing as i’m on the left end of the political spectrum and i’m also not really a fan of media storms around something as silly as this. but still i can’t help but defend her. yes obviously she knew her boobs looked fabulous and full in the picture before she posted it. does that make her a slut? NO NO NO
we need to stop calling women sluts and whores. sexuality shouldn’t be demonized in any capacity, especially dealing with something as minute as cleavage. how can we expect LGBT rights to become standard if we can’t even see a photo of cleavage without starting a lynchmob? come on people, pick your battles.

i’m totally with you secretstevie, thank you!
also, has anyone considered that she did this on purpose? maybe she just wanted to see how crazy the media would get over a few inches of cleavage to prove a point.

Do I think she’s a stupid slut for taking that picture? No. Do I think she’s a stupid slut for having backasswards views? Yes.

@secretstevie ...I think a lot of the comments actually are in agreement with what you said. Not many people agreed with the ‘slut’ label.
To me, it’s not really a question of “why is a woman’s chest so sexualized?”... fact is that a majority of people almost everywhere in the world consider breasts as something sexual. In my opinion, it would be a bit naive for someone in her position to post a photo on the internet featuring her huge breasts and honestly just expect people to just overlook it.
I think maybe people here (or at least me) are more upset that she pretends to be so oblivious about all the attention she is receiving… and in her actions, only tries to garner more attention. If she didn’t love it, she would have let the whole stupid thing die quietly because, you are right, it’s really not a big deal at all.

“I think maybe people here (or at least me) are more upset… “
By ‘upset’ I meant mildly annoyed. I’m pretty sure not many people care that much. =D

Although McCain has the right to wear whatever she wants in her home and yes, the sexualization of breasts is not her fault (@secretstevie, power to the females!), she should know a little bit better than to put herself in that position. She seems like a rather intelligent girl, so I don’t understand why she didn’t think to maybe…I don’t know…put on a cardigan before allowing everyone in the entire world to see her in her “home-attire”. When you’re by yourself, by all means, let the girls hang out (I myself frequently sit in just my panties when I’m chill-axing), but once you post it online, it’s time to put on your public clothes. Since she doesn’t wear tanks outside her house, she should probably start considering twitter a public space.
