“To The Guillotine!” Says Ikea

Capital punishment meets modern design, predictably at a low cost and with a name you can’t pronounce. Once you manage to assemble Ikea’s sleek SOKKOMB guillotine, you’ll be able to carry out justice by ridding the world of traitors, those who commit crimes against liberty, and any remaining relatives of Louis XVI. With its natural wood finish, the SOKKOMB line can also compliment pieces from the GRUNDTAL and VÄRDE series. [Facebook via Graphism.fr]

I call fake. No way Ikea would use actual plywood. Now, if it were made out of particle board with a veneer on it, I'd be more willing to believe.

I'm all for the efficient and contemporary Swedish designs that have been popular for decades, but this is like creating an imitation electric chair or fake cans of cyanide gas. Kids and adults alike can now imitate killing each other, which only furthers the violent culture that we have become.

@Coral: Actually, with this, kids and adults alike can actually kill each other (I mean, if it were an actual product, and not a spoof, which we all know it is, right?). However, it's also good for slicing pepperoni, cheese, celery, and the like. It's also wonderful for cutting up credit cards, and probably quite cathartic when used in that way.

Surely this is a joke. I dunno what I think of it- on one hand, it's ridiculous, on the other, I wonder if it's any different to putting kitchen knives in reach of children.

... peeling faux/photo-imaged wood grain veneer over chipped particleboard with misaligning plastic screws/holes and crappy little hand tools unusable on anything else. The only thing authentic here is IKEA's trademark sound-alike names: SUCCUMB, tho, DECAPPA could have worked too.I vote veggie slicer as well, and put Ron Popeil and his spray-on toup away for good.
