Thoughts From Guys On Our IM: Grand Theft Auto IV

Earlier we posted a poll about the hooker screwing and killing in Grand Theft Auto IV. I wasn’t entirely sure how I felt about this game, so I haven’t voted yet, and instead asked the guys on my IM why I shouldn’t be horribly offended by them having virtual sex for money with the woman to the left, and then blasting her in the head with a semi-automatic. Their compelling answers, after the jump.

I love every GTA game. I have played them all and taken joy in killing many a hooker, pimp, street urchin and random person. That’s part of the fun of the game. I think people try to read too much into video games. If you try to make it out to be sinister and evil then yes people will take advantage of that and play into it. Am I a misogynist because I like to play Grand Theft Auto and run hookers down with my fly car? Hardly. If anything playing the game is just a form of escapism to deal with the harsh reality of working, paying rent and other annoying things that stress people out. I’ll play almost any first person shooter. I will just as happily shoot up aliens as I will a pimp. Does that mean that I’m a xenophobe (and I use that term loosely)? No. I’m just trying to save the Earth.
My copy of GTA IV is warm in my 360 right now. woot.

The fact of the matter is that the results of your poll (on a site where the obvious majority of subscribers are women)shows that most people either A don’t care or B are realistic enough to understand that it’s a video game. Bottom line the game is fun, and if its not your cup of tea then you shouldn’t play it.
Also I personally would use a rocket launcher to kill the hooker not a semi auto. Bigger fireball == more fun

I wasted a few good hours of work time today investigating this GTA4 so I could speak intelligently about it on this site.
The game rocks. How I love running people over, getting out and taking their money, and then driving off to kill more people. I too take a special pleasure in running over cops...and hookers.
And, there are no cats.

My bethrothed bought the game this weekend. I hate it. But not because of the hooker killing—I just think the sound effects are ANNOYING. Maybe I should play it.
