Thoughts From Guys On Our IM: Have You Tried To Change A Woman’s Style?
On Friday, we heard that Reggie Bush wants Kim Kardashian to lose weight because she has too much junk in the trunk. It seems a trend is developing…either that or men are losing their dang minds. Chris Brown reportedly told Rihanna to stop wearing revealing outfits. Apparently, he is worried her clothing will attract too many male admirers. But isn’t that the point? Let’s be honest, the whole appeal of Rihanna is her image. [Her songs are pretty catchy too!—Ed.] Young women want to copy her style, and young men want her on their arm. If you take away the racy stage costumes, what is left besides a pretty face? Rihanna, who has not confirmed her relationship with Chris, should get herself a more mature man who is more trusting and actually appreciates the work she puts into her look. [China Daily]
But all this got us thinking…would the guys on our IM ever be so judgmental of their girlfriends’ fashion choices? Amelia finds out, after the jump…

Scandalous! If my man ever threw a piece of my clothing away I would know immediately and then give him hell all the way to Saks where he damn well better buy me what I want, even if its 4 times as expensive as what he trashed.
That being said, there are plenty of lounge about clothes that I have that he just doesn’t like. I have one sleeveless shirt with little rainbows all over it and he calls it my ree-tee shirt and asks me if I forgot my safety helmet. He’s lucky I have a good sense of humor.

I loooove trying on clothes for a guy and then having him buy it for me.

Don’t we do this to guys all the time? I made a guy throw away tapered jeans (man-hose), old loafers, and khaki shorts with an elastic waist band. But I bought him clothes after that, to reciprocate.

Amelia, I would just like to say that i am very surprised that you would make the comment that all Rihanna has going for her is her sexy style and a pretty face. Yes, she is in the music business but that doesnt mean that you should encourage people to only appreciate a woman for her good looks. I would hope that you think more of yourself and of other women than just a pretty face.

@Christie Annika wrote the intro to the post (I just conducted the IMs) so she’s the one who said that Rihanna’s appeal is her image—an opinion she’s entitled to and she can speak to it herself.
I happen to love Rihanna’s music, so she’s more than a pretty face to me—but like a lot of pop stars today, Rihanna is a “package”. Image and talent make up the typical pop star package and Rihanna having both in the eyes of consumers is the reason for her success.
It has nothing to do with her being a woman. For some, Justin Timberlake’s image is his appeal, and that without the props, the fedoras, and the smooth dance moves, he isn’t more than a pretty face either. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but I don’t think either of us were being sexist! Besides, there’s Rihanna-love all OVER The Frisky. Didn’t you know we call her our Patron Saint?

@Christie I’m in the minority here at The Frisky because I’m not much of a fan of Rihanna’s music. My comment that she is all image was in reference to her being talentless. Sure, her songs are catchy, but would she have loads of fans if she wasn’t pretty and dressed sexy or edgy, for that matter? I doubt it. Heck, she doesn’t even have a musical personality. She’s gone from soca to R&B;to rock to punk in about five years. Therefore, I stand by my comment, and don’t think I was being sexist in any way. I was merely commenting on her from a music listener’s p.o.v.

@Annika Harris And as a Rihanna fan, I totally agree with you that without the rest of the package—looks and style—she wouldn’t have a record deal. That’s the industry for ya! There’s plenty of extremely talented, but not excessively good-looking or stylish people that will never get the recognition they deserve.
