Think Twice Before Walking Around Naked In Your Own House
If you thought all that Balloon Boy coverage was ridiculous, you might roll your eyes at this major story Fox News is covering. However, Virgina resident Eric Williamson actually needs the exposure (uh, heh) because here is a man who has clearly been wronged. Every day at 5:30 a.m., Mr. Williamson wakes up and makes his way downstairs to make a pot of coffee and he does so nude. Because even though it may sound out-of-this-world crazy to some people, many folks actually kind of enjoy the fact that they can walk around in their own houses minding their business and stuff while they’re naked. So anyway ...
... it’s the crack of dawn and some lady and her 7-year-old are cutting through his yard (!?) when they spot Eric and his johnson standing there sipping a cup of good mornin’ America and they call the police. Yes, the lady actually called the police. Even more unbelievable: they took her call seriously and arrested him. Now Eric’s in kind of big trouble. Oh, and since there was a little kid involved, well, let’s just say things could get really bad for him, especially since he is a father himself. What we want to know is, why was this lady on his lawn with her kid at 5 a.m. and what kind of douchey Peeping Tom/trespasser calls the cops on the person they’re spying on? Sure, you could say there might be more to the story, but if there really was, why is this woman hiding out while this guy is giving heart-wrenching, in-depth reenactments (right down to the coffee mug!) to news crews from the scene of the crime? He’s so clearly innocent. [And attractive! What’s there to complain about?!—Editor] Justice for Naked Coffee Boy! [The Awl]

I read this article this morning. That #&@$% is messed up. It’s not like he saw them coming and pressed his junk up against the window, for christ’s sake. Walking around naked is what your house is for. The worst part is that if this situation were reversed, and a guy was cutting through some woman’s yard while she was making naked coffee, he’d STILL be the one getting arrested, only in that case it would be for being a pervy peeping tom. What the #&@$%.

Ridiculous. If someone spies on me early in the morning, they’ll find me doing the same thing in my house. Except I’m usually ironing a shirt for work instead of drinking coffee, both can be dangerous when you are “exposed”.

That lady should be arrested for peeping. Plus she brought her daughter with. Her intention probably wasnt to peep on him but he should be the one pressing charges, the lady was trespassing on private property at the least. How could they arrest him? He was in his own home and wasnt parading his nudity to public. Ive been naked in my house, I hope i dont ever get arrested for it. lol

That is terrible. I keep a robe handy for darts in and out of the bedroom, but my husband goes around nude. He should just get some blinds and call it good. I’ve always had this feeling, and maybe I’m just nosy, but if people have their blinds/curtains open at night and the lights ON, if you can see from a public right of way or your property, its fair game. Still wouldn’t call the cops on anyone just b/c they were nude, thou…and this lady was not on her property.

My neighbor saw me topless in my kitchen once. He’s retired and fixed my fence for me afterwards so I figure he must have liked what he saw… unlike this lady. Sometimes nakedness happens and the lady shouldn’t have seen it but she did. Get over it. There’s no need to call the cops on the poor guy standing in his own kitchen.

That poor man needs to hire a lawyer. Y’know from the sounds of this story, I would say she was squatting either in his yard or a foreclosed home by chance? Either that or she was planning on breaking in? I know it’s far fetched. But I wouldn’t doubt it.

He has every right to be naked in his own home.. I do it all the time. I always thought it wasn’t a problem as long as I didn’t care, but I think I might go out and buy curtains tonight!
I can slightly see the other side of this, though. When it’s dark outside and lights are on in the house, people can see inside from pretty far away. And if those people are children..

I don’t understand why it matters if they’re kids or not. Since when can’t a kid see someone naked? When I would bring my daughter to the Y to work out, I (and other dads) had to bring their daughters into the locker room where, oh my god, they saw naked men.
it reminds me of my apt in Manhattan where my kitchen looked out to a window in another building about 10 feet away. My gf and I walked around nude and so did the couple in the other apt and we’d see each other all the time for years, but we never saw each other’s faces

Fox5 is the local affiliate here in DC, NOVA, MD where I live… god knows there’s a lot of crime (not that this should be a crime, except maybe trespassing on the woman’s part!) here way more serious than this they could work on. Give me a break!
I live in a mid-rise and downtown DC and I have regularly seen, at random, in the apartment across the alley, naked men and women as well as various sexual escapades with 1, 2, and 3 people. Now, I don’t just sit camped out by the window, but the buildings are very close and most apartments only have one outward facing wall, so the windows are huge! I live in a trendy little area and it’s mostly just us young professional types that are working hard and playing hard. If I called the cops every time I saw something (or heck knows what they see from across the alley in my apartment/bldg!), the police would never get anything done in this city. What a crock.

The woman and child were trespassing on his property at 5:30 AM, and he gets arrested?
What if he’d owned a dog that attacked while she trespassed - would she have called the cops? What if she’d tripped over a lawn troll - would she have called the cops? Does this woman have any concept of personal property versus public property?
And the police actually responded to this lawbreaker’s phone call by arresting the guy who lived in the house? Um, wow, really? Is it bassackwards day?
If you don’t like the view, get off your neighbor’s property.

The charges wont stand up, especially if there was no sex act.
From a legal standpoint, he is absolutely within his rights to be in the nude on his property up to and including his front yard. This has happened on multiple occasions in various parts of the country and in every case I’ve read about, the charges were not able to stand.

But that doesn’t mean he intended for that to happen, and come ON, it’s her fault for being on his property that early. GEEZ. Like someone mentioned, it’s not like he was standing at his window waiting for someone to notice his biz.

Vanna, she can’t drop the charges. The state must drop the charges… and they’d better. This is a bogus case and it is not a crime to walk around your house naked. He had a reasonable expectation of privacy in his own home and the lady was trespassing. Ugh! I especially love how she used the “think of the children” defense as her delicate sensibilities were offended when she was looking in this guy’s window… while trespassing.

From one of the linked articles:
I sure hope they can’t prove that, because I think you should be able to walk around naked inside your own home any time you want. And a one year jail term? WTF??? Good God, we’ve got issues here.
However, it would seem that it was at 8:40am and not the earlier time reported above. Not that it matters that much, but expectations of privacy at 5:30AM are different than those around the time kids get on school buses.

Nah. They can’t prove it. It’s all about the legal standard of “intent,” in this case “intentional display” – their burden of proof – and they can’t. There won’t be jail or even a trial – this story too will fade away. Slow newsday in Nova.
The problem with these WTF articles is we never hear any followup to the final resolution of them, and there are always salient details left out from the start.
——-
Sidebar alert: Unless... on the outside chance dude is leaving something out, like upon realization he was being spied, engaged in eye contact with the TRESSPASSERS btw, sustained his naked posture, ie, “intentional display” while sipping his coffee out of his understandable annoyance at being spied. It would still be a he-said/she-said and that’s not enough, unless there are pics of him engaging with her into the camera… and on more than one unlucky, accidental occasion.
But he is the one in the lit house, she and the boy in the dark, so how could he know who’s out there. That said, it is very difficult to justify probable cause for a warrant just on someone’s say-so. Even with pics, tho, I think it will still be dropped, since meeting the burden of proving intent is hard, esp in the face of him seeking damages from police.
He should have her charged for trespassing since they cut thru his yard from the walkway behind it (a public easement, I assume).

Again, while I disagree that what he did was - or at least should be - criminal, the linked articles say this happened after 8:30AM, and there’s nowhere in the continental US that’s going to be dark at that time. So there was plenty of light outside, which means not only that he could see them if he looked but that they’d have to be intentionally looking into the house to see him because there wouldn’t be that automatic drawing of the eyes to a lit area in the dark.

Day or Night, Time of Day, you gotta be kidding me…
This person was in his own house, period. Barring release of video showing him swinging his thing on a regular basis to his neighbors through the window, which would show bad taste for sure, but would not make him a criminal there is no case. (Easy defense, your honor I was dancing in the privacy of my own home…good luck with that.)
If someone sun baths nude in their back yard, same thing. Don’t look if you find it offensive. They own and/or rent the property. If someone does not want to see, don’t look.
Put this place down as a place not “safe” to move to because of political correctness run amok and people unable to mind their own business. Critical for a civilized society.
She should be charged with trespassing and being a peeping Tom so that she can undergo the same amount of humiliation that she inflicted on this guy minding his own business, in his own kitchen. Which would also be absurd, except she was stupid enough to call the police. (Can you say child endangerment (absurd too) or Child grooming (absurd, desensitizing a child to nude images) or Misdemeanor corruption of a minor (absurd) or felony child abuse (absurd also).
This is probably a nosy neighbor that should have minded their own business rather than telling another person how to live their life.
And what child would notice, except for the hysterical parent, yelling, “Don’t look”. Pathetic. She needs serious counseling and mental help, should be court order for wasting the police officers time.
And the police, please, where in the world was your professional discretion? I do not even think it warrants a talk with the guy, but that would be the most…you arrested him, you gotta be kidding me. He needs to get a lawyer to prevent the police from ever doing this to any innocent citizen ever again.

This is so sad… even if the charges are dropped the arrest is still there on his record… I completely agree that the lady should be arrested for trespassing… that is the only crime that was committed on this mans property. He can still file charges against her and she should be sued for this because he will be looked at as a pervert and explaining this incident for the rest of his life. Then sue the city for the false arrest. I have never sued anyone or thought about it, but he has every right to put these people in their place.
