“The Ugly Truth” Looks Like Fugly Nonsense
As much as I love a rom-com, one I will not be seeing is “The Ugly Truth.” For starters, despite winning me over slightly with “27 Dresses,” I loathe Katherine Heigl. And Gerard Butler gives me that icky, dirty feeling—the kind that gives me a slight dry heave. And while I never expect a rom-com to blow my mind, “The Ugly Truth” sounds about as cliche as they come and just the slightest bit familiar.
“A macho morning TV show correspondent (Butler) makes a bet with his romantically challenged producer (Heigl): If his tips on how to land and keep a guy don’t work, he’ll quit the business.”
Isn’t that the plot of “How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days,” only in reverse, and with fuglier, more annoying stars?
And look at the poster. Oh yeah, up top? That’s the poster for “The Ugly Truth,” though you wouldn’t know that by looking at it, considering it doesn’t have the movie title anywhere. I can’t decide if that’s genius or moronic marketing. Anyway, the poster indicates where the plot is going for this flick—man stupid! He think with pee-pee! Woman smart! She think with real brain! Ugh. Torture yourself by watching the trailer, below.

Wow tell us how you really feel Amelia! LOL
I saw a picture like the one above where the caption said “The Ugly Truth”. It was a pretty popular My Space profile addition from what I had seen.

Ugh. I hate this whole societal idea that men are just brainless horndogs who can’t help themselves. It’s such a cop out. Women are subject to the exact same temptations and lapses of judgment men are, we’re just expected to use our BRAINS, while men are not. They can’t heeeeeelp it. They have peeeenises.

Ugh, this is why I detest most “chick flicks” (some are pretty cleverly written, but most are sheer crap)...are there like only 3 plotlines available in this genre?

@becktasm: This sort of thing helps perpetuate the behavior as well. If we keep telling men that this is “how they are”, why wouldn’t they act that way? Why wouldn’t they think that if they don’t act like slaves to the penis, eveyone else will think they are abnormal. :(

Could you simplify the plot? That was too complex for my penis to understand.

I love him! Sure, it’s typical of the rom com genre, but since I find Gerard so delectable (ummm….Scottish babies!) I will sit through Heigl’s crap…and yes, I was slightly willing to give her a pass but then I remember all her other antics and the anti-Heigl feeling lives on.

I’m with MoonBabye! I usually avoid Rom-Coms like the plague but I would pay to see/hear Gerard Butler read the phonebook. Sorry if he’s not everyone’s cuppa. More for me!
