The Shoe Everyone Is Making A Big Old Fuss About This Fall

Sam Edleman Zoe boot

Perhaps you recall Mary-Kate Olsen stomping all over town in a pair of extra large Balenciaga platform booties that, despite their hefty price tag, sold out everywhere. That was back in 2006, but flash forward to 2009 and Sam Edelman, shoemaker to Victoria’s Secret catalogues and the Home Shopping Network, is the one enjoying all the glory (and smash sales) now. In ‘07, Edelman crafted the best knockoff out there, but since it sold out so quickly, it’s been reissued for a whopping $345 (it was originally $170) and has been dubbed the Zoe boot. Movin’ on up! And ya know what? Not only are fashion bloggers hailing it as the shoe of the season (wait, again?), but it’s already sold out on Zappos! I spotted the shoe with my own two eyes in Soho in NYC this weekend, but I’m not sure if I’m sold on it, even though I’ll def cop to sort of wanting a pair. (Mostly for the height factor, truth be told.) But all of this fawning over the shoe seems a little crazy at this point, right? If you’re interested, they’re taking pre-sale orders (!?) for the shoe here. Is this Frankenstein-looking number really covetable or is this just another case of much ado about nothing?

This “shoe” reminds me of the thankfully dead practice of chinese foot binding….

Why would I want to buy a pair of shoes that I know everyone else will be wearing?

Not to be a total know-it-all, but I just wanted to point out that Sam Edelman is not the designer for Victoria’s Secret shoes. You’re thinking of Colin Stuart. VS (as well as other retailers) does carry Sam Edelman shoes, though.
But seriously, these shoes are fug.

Not to mention, Zappos is NOT a discount shoe outlet online…their prices are usually at the original site’s price and far above discount prices.

I think the shoes are amazing and I have jocked them since Mary Kate… I pondered the VS knockoffs for a long long while but “fakes are never in fashion” tolled in my head every time I clicked “Add to cart.”  Finally they disappeared from VS, and the Balenciaga originals disappeared from Ebay.  I moved on, but still thought about them.  I feel stuck in limbo now that they’re being reissued… I should be *so* over them but I’m not, but how can I reneg on my fortitude for denying them for so long… at a steeper price tag!  Talk me out of it Frisky friends!!!

jillakiss, this is exactly what i’m experiencing right now. i think it’s more about the shape and aesthetic quality than this actual shoe. maybe we’re going to see more hoofy platforms coming down the pike? but yeah i kind of want these too. then again, maybe lintilla said it best: “Why would I want to buy a pair of shoes that I know everyone else will be wearing?”

It looks like it is wearing a very kinky thong. Underpants for your footwear… that may be the next big thing.

@Jenbug - kinky thong..very funny!

These shoes are ugly, and I’m also with the thought that I don’t want shoes everyone else is wearing.
