The Perfect Woman Circa 1930

Well, isn’t this a fascinating little diagram? Back in 1930, this handy-dandy little doodle was drawn to illustrate what the components would be of the ideal female screen type, based on the attributes of the 13 leading stars of the time. I wonder how she would be drawn today? Any guesses? [BuzzFeed]

I’d still be an inch too short and 10 lbs too heavy.

The lady of our time is more towards 6 feet tall, 100lbs, bones sticking out, DD breasts, and looks like Angelina Jolie.

Add 3” and I would have been hot #&@$% in the 30’s.  Only thing I don’t understand is the arm 18” with a 6” wrist.  My wrist is 6” but my arm is 9.5” it seems like a drastic difference in size to ask a woman with an 18” arm to have a 6” wrist and vice versa.  BTW I am sewing so my tape measure is out, I don’t automatically know the width of my upper arm.  I’m not crazy.

@bumbler: haha, I’m glad you added the last part about sewing because I was becoming increasingly self-conscious, I started to think that maybe everyone knew their wrist and arm width and that I was late on the game.

Haha yeah I have my dimensions pinpointed down to the length of my toes! Really the diagram just made me curious and since the tape measure was already out… I did get a weird look when my husband came in and I had it wrapped around my neck.  I tried to explain but he just walked into the kitchen and said he’s learned not to ask anymore.

An 18” arm is pretty sizable…that can’t be right. The average male bicep is 13” (per Men’s Health, which i know ya’ll love).

I think maybe 18’’ is referring to the length of the arm, not the width.

My guess is the arm measurement is length… seems to short to be measured the way men’s dress shirts are, but probably from under the arm to the wrist?

well i may not be able to be a victoria’s secret angel now but at least i can rest easy knowing that i would have been hot #&@$% back in the day.  maybe there is a fetish for silent film-esque ladies that i can capitalize on?  i’ll have to consult google on that one…

to be fair, i didn’t measure my arms and stuff, i am just going by height, weight and body measurements.

Damn!  2 inches too tall and 12 pounds too heavy.  Also, 1 inch too many on the waist and… like 3 on the chest.  Even the 1930s thought I was a big girl.  Stupid silent films…

I’m far too boyish body shaped… and a couple inches too short and about 20lb underweight. Dammit lack of breasts and hips. Guys still like them almost 80 years later just as much… :(

Wow, those are my measurements. I know where I’m going when I invent the time machine!
