The Four People I Fell In Love With Today

A member of the extended Frisky family told me the best advice she’d ever gotten was to actively fall in love with four people every day—that if you put your mind to it, it can be done and be incredibly fun in the process. I decided to give it a shot. Here’s the four people I fell in love with today (before lunch even!). I hope you’ll share yours!

1. Our Mind Of Man, John DeVore: A picture of him in high school came into my possession, so to speak, this morning. He looks adorable, but he’s wearing hilarious ‘80s old man style glasses in the photo. I promptly sent the photo around to everyone we know (sorry, he would kill me if I posted it here), which made him mad (in other words, his latest column may come in late!), but what he doesn’t know is that I kind of am in love with High School DeVore! At least for today.

2. Chicken Parm Dude: Sorry, that’s what I’m calling him (check yesterday’s Thoughts From Guys On Our IM for the original reference). I fell in love with him (for today, kids!) because of this comment, during a conversation about whether we’d like to be rich:

“If you and I were who we are, but had millions, imagine how much good we could do and the fun we could have.”

The order of those priorities says it all.

3. Matthew Fox: I’m a Sawyer girl myself, but this Details photo shoot of Fox (Jack on “Lost”) is enough to make me briefly consider switching teams. Put a pair of Wayfarers on a man, and he’s mine for life (or just the day).

4. Barack Obama: I fall in love with him nearly every week for a new reason (and occasionally OUT of love), but this one got my heart going today. In a letter published in Parade, Obama wrote to his daughters Malia and Sasha:

“These are the things I want for you—to grow up in a world with no limits on your dreams and no achievements beyond your reach, and to grow into compassionate, committed women who will help build that world. And I want every child to have the same chances to learn and dream and grow and thrive that you girls have. That’s why I’ve taken our family on this great adventure.”

So who did YOU fall in love with today?

1. My cab driver Mohammed Ali. I didn’t notice his name till the last three blocks of the ride. Then I noticed him and he was so cute. We ended up having a very funny conversation about the fact that he was the most popular person in his high school. It made me smile all day to think about what it must have been like to be him growing up.

2. Bob from The Biggest Loser. I DVRd so I just watched last night’s episode. I’m not really sure if he’s gay or not. Usually he’s the nicest man but last night he got so pissed off and as he said during weigh in “Jillian possessed me.” I loved that he lost it a little.

3. Mr. Eleven. I won’t mention his name here but we’ve had some flirting as of late and I’ve been traveling and haven’t had a chance to speak with him in a while but he called earlier to arrange a chatting time tonight and it made me smile.

4. The Bartender at Boqueria in NYC.  -So yummy and cute an d he suggested a great glass of wine. I’ll be going back when I need a little attention for sure!

i’m an operator for a well known department store in boca raton, fl and i deal with a lot of people from the crazies to the well, even more crazies. but i saw this article and decided to fill my day with love instead of frustration.  so the winners are:

1. our clientele vendor.  everyday she wears cowboys boots, an unnecessary wig, and foundation that could be a second layer of her face.  but today she needed help with a fax, so i helped her.  and then she said i was the nicest of all the operators and offered me free skin care that would originally cost my left leg.  so how could i not love that?

2. our shiseido’s business manager.  i fall in love with her every time i see her so she must be included.  her son just passed right before the holidays but her attitude is nothing i would have expected so soon after.  and everytime i buy my make-up from her she gives me tons of samples.

3. our store manager.  who at first i was extremely intimidated by but now see that she’s just as much a goof ball as her employees smile  example:  each year we have a “santa” in our store for employee shop day and this year she asked the repeat santa to not get insanely drunk the night before so she wouldn’t have to dry clean the suit for the second time.  i just thought that was quite forgiving of her.

4. our customer - let’s call him, Bob the equestrian.  he calls in at least once a week and asks me, “How’s your husband and our kids?”  and at first i thought it was creepy.  but then i soon found out that he was reaching 80 and that he was probably lonely and nothing better to do than buy suits.  so now he’s my phone a friend.
