The dress Michelle Obama wore last night was from Narciso Rodriguez’s Spring 2009 collection (see look #39). Personally, I think Michelle should have braved the cold and gone sans cardigan—it sort of ruined the dress’s lines—but she still looked lovely! [WSJ]

In March, Target will launch Designer Collaborations, which is aimed at bringing well-known designers to the masses. This is completely separate from Go International, which focuses on emerging designers. The first Designer Collaboration will be Alexander McQueen. We might never shop anywhere but the Bullseye ever again. [WWD]

I have to say I was not a fan of the dress Michelle had and actually a few of the girls at the party I was at all also commented at the same time about how the dress made her look preggers. Besides the cardigan, the criss cross thing in the middle cutting the color just wasn’t flattering at all. Love her, hated the dress.

I was a little surprised by her choice for such an historic moment. It wasn’t at all flattering. Still, she will make a lovely (and hopefully effective) first lady and I’m very happy with the outcome.
Peace…................

Michelle Obama chose a dress that had symbolically meaningful colors and bold contrasting shapes and colors. I think she showed a boldness that embraces significance over mere style. The red for power, the black for self- identity and even the rising sun of the Orient (partly Obama’s heritage) are within the context of the dress. But then, a dress is just a dress, and maybe she just liked it. Same for the cardigan. A woman of style AND practicality.

The Cardigan was too casual for the dress. To beat the cold, a dressy cropped/ bolero cardigan would have been a good choice

Horrible choice for a dress! She could have spent under $100 at Marshalls and fared much better than she appeared last evening. Two words: Halloween Costume. Doesn’t she have people around her who are supposed to be honest and tell her how bad she looks? For that matter, her children could have used some help getting dressed as well.

CONGRATULATIONS United States of America on electing
our 1st Black President. A historic and amazing time in history.
She usually makes decent choices, and I know that as she improves her image, and as the years go on, she will sharpen her image even more.
As far as her dress last night. Here’s the problem, I felt it was too distracting, and upstaged her family. Although she looked stunning, and her family was absolutely glowing, her choice in dress was off. I do not know who approved this dress, but it was waaay too much. At the end of the day-the dress does not make a woman, a woman makes a dress.

Michele could benefit from an appearance on the “What Not To Wear” show.

@NJ I disagree completely. Michelle has amazing style—sometime she takes risk that not everyone loves, but that IS the essence of personal style.

I was surprised by the dress- not flattering at all. Mostly I was surprised because she’s usually such a classic, classy dresser.

I LOVED the dress. Super-chic and daring. The opposite of the current WH occupants.

I think the dress is beautiful…on the model that first wore it, on the runway…..they have redesigned it for Michelle and not in a flattering way.

I think the dress is wrong for her figure, but I look at her face and how happy she is and I realize that she feels beautiful in it, which is really what matters.
I don’t like the dress but it is nice to have a fashion-forward first lady again!

Michelle looked fabulous in that dress. I read here (projectweightloss.com) about how she struggles to squeeze a workout in her busy program. No wonder she wakes up at that crazy hour to do her exercises.
