The 10 Coolest Redheads Ever

I’ve never understood why redheads in movies, TV, and books are always resentful of their ginger locks. Red hair is gorgeous, in all its different shades, and usually a redhead has a little extra pizzaz personality wise as well. After the jump, 10 redheads that put brunettes and blondes to shame.

Yay for David Bowie!  But what about the Frisky’s own hot ginge, Wendy?

No Lauren Ambrose? No Glenn Headley? No Cate Blanchett, for all that is holy?

I mean, I like Isla Fisher fine, but—really? And Anne Shirley (who was played by Sarah Polley, who’s lovely but quite blonde)?

@Chico B Ahem, you are speaking to the world’s number one Anne Shirley fan. Anne was played by Megan Follows, who is 100% natural red. Sarah Polley played Sara Stanley on “Road To Avonlea” which took place AFTER Anne of Green Gables.

As for Isla Fisher—I think she’s really, really funny. Lauren Ambrose? Meh. I’ll give you Cate Blanchett though. She’s #11.

As a true and natural redhead I think I understand why there is some resentment towards it.

I love my hair now, and people constantly tell me that the color is amazing. I would never, ever dye my hair and I really hope that when the time comes for it to grey I’ll get a nice shade of white or something.

But I also spent a good deal of my childhood asking my mother if I could change it because other kids made fun of me. And because there were not as many redheaded characters on tv/in movies as there were blondes and brunettes. All I had was Ariel in the Little Mermaid (it took a bit for me to get to Pippi Lonstocking and Anne Shirley) and there was no redheaded Barbie for me to play with either.

So I guess all redheads still have that left in their heads from when they were kids.

Two words..Gena Davis!  As a 6’3’’ redhead myself, Gena Davis and her hottness made it easier for me to be confident in my skin.  When you’re freakishly tall and a redhead you tend to stick out but Gena made me realize it was for the right reasons.

Tilda Swinton! Definitely a cool, cool redhead. I’d also add Rita Hayworth and Julianne Moore to that category.  I’ll nominate Vincent van Gogh for the men’s category.

definitely Julianne Moore should have been on this list…

Isla Fisher is cool, I love her-but she hasn’t made quite the impact on the world as Julianne has.

Maureen O’Hara.  Hands down, my favorite redhead.  Who can’t love her in The Quiet Man and The Parent Trap?!?  And if you know anything about her personal life…  Wow!

Holy crap, I’ve never resented my hair. Yes, I’m feisty. Yes, I have a higher pain tolerance. Yes, I’m sexual. [Or how much of that is due to my longer ring finger (indicator of gestational testosterone exposure)]

I love the Elizabeth movies, she is totally my women.

I always hated my hair growing up. It went from blonde, to strawberry blonde, to auburn as I grew up. Everyone hates red hair when you’re a kid…because, well, kids are cruel.

But now, I’ll be out shopping and strangers will ask me what hair dye I used to get my color. I’m always so proud to tell them its natural.

...though I’m still awfully prejudice against blondes. Sue me!

I have a red head friend, her hair is awesome. She’s straight outta Mexico with red hair and freckles, not Irish, just a spanish speaking Mexicana. I also heard that, Red heads have the most sex! and hearing from my friend, she has a lot more sex than I do.

@ Ginger, yes I have to fully agree with you that Ariel was all we had, because there was no way I could really look up to Annie OR Pippy not to mention the effin Wendy’s girl… I LOVE BEING A REDHEAD and would trade it for NOTHING. (ps there was a kinda redheaded barbie, remember Midge?)
redheads are fantastic, rare, and have way more fun.

@ Lucky Red I had that Midge Barbie! It was my favorite, probably because I am also a red-head. I think she had freckles too.
I smile a little every time I watch ‘The Fifth Element’ and the perfect being is a red-head.

Ann Margaret is and will remain hot forever! Ginger on Gilligan’s Island made me froth at the mouth as a kid. When a redhead is hot, she’s SMOKIN’!!

Wow, I’ve never commented, but suddenly my username is so appropriate. I was totally wearing my “Redheads have more fun” shirt today! Anyway, yes, it was not cool as a kid, but as I grew up, i realized it was definitely an attraction factor for a lot of people- not just guys- i have old ladies telling me “i love your hair” and people asking me what number this color is. I too love and embrace my redheadedness now that I’m all grown up.
And YES, I was pissed about Donna’s hair. At my old office, people called me “Hot Donna”.

I hated my red hair when I was a kid, and now it’s turning darker as I get older, and I keep colouring it brighter to keep the red!
And left off the list: Holland Taylor. Still hot, and is my role model on Two & a Half Men. Evil and sexy!

I, too, was pissed about Donna’s hair (and I’m a blonde) She looked so beautiful as a redhead! Why mess with it, if it’s not broken??

I grew up as a strawberry blond, but because I had a hard time being told that I was a redhead I bleached my hair and more than ten years. It was difficult being a ginger.
But I agree, where is Tori Amos? She’s the rockin’-ist ginger ever. Bowie ginger days are far behind him.
