The most obvious example this week?
Mackenzie Phillips who just revealed, both on “
Oprah” and in a memoir called
High on Arrival, that she woke up the night before her wedding to find her dad, John Phillips of the Mamas and the Papas, having sex with her. This developed into a 10-year consensual incestuous affair. Oh, and that’s not all. John also used to shoot his daughter up with heroin. Father. Of. The Millennium. [

This article makes me want to hug my mom and dad for being normal and nice parents.
And this has nothing to do with the topic, but Tory Spelling looks 75 years old in that picture.

While it’s easy to focus on the celebs with bad parents, that doesn’t mean they are more likely to have bad parents than the general population. It’s just that they’re in the public eye, and bad parents make for a juicier story than good ones. We can’t make any assumptions for a sample, of what was it, 9 people?

How soon we forget. Don’t the screwed up dead ones make the list?
* Michael Jackson – father Joe. Nuf said.
* Anna Nicole Smith – raised by serial-marrying mother and passed around to relatives; NO relationship with father.
Not screwed up (badly):
* Patrick Swayze – abusive alcoholic father; unresolved regrets over his death, started drinking.
These were bad parents, child “ar-tistes” or not.
