Drew Barrymore

Jaid Barrymore, mama of Drew, was never going to win a Parent of the Year Award. She notoriously got Drew hooked on the party scene when she should have been in middle school, setting Drew up for two rehab stints before her 15th birthday. In the October issue of In Style magazine, Drew reveals that she still has a super rocky relationship with her mom. “I am okay with my dad, but my mom and I have yet to work it out,” she said. She parted ways with her mom at age 17 and things haven’t changed. [People]

This article makes me want to hug my mom and dad for being normal and nice parents.

While it’s easy to focus on the celebs with bad parents, that doesn’t mean they are more likely to have bad parents than the general population. It’s just that they’re in the public eye, and bad parents make for a juicier story than good ones. We can’t make any assumptions for a sample, of what was it, 9 people?

courtney love’s mum wrote a book that made me feel bad for courtney! she didn’t fall far from the family tree.

How soon we forget. Don’t the screwed up dead ones make the list?
* Michael Jackson – father Joe. Nuf said.
* Anna Nicole Smith – raised by serial-marrying mother and passed around to relatives; NO relationship with father.

Not screwed up (badly):
* Patrick Swayze – abusive alcoholic father; unresolved regrets over his death, started drinking.

These were bad parents, child “ar-tistes” or not.
