There’s a follow-up to a story we told you about the other day. Alina Percea, the 18-year-old who auctioned her virginity to a wealthy Italian businessman for $13,600, may have to give 50% of her earnings to the government who say her act was “tantamount to prostitution.” The Romanian-born teenager lives in Germany where prostitution is legal, but heavily taxed. “It is not a moral standpoint but a fiscal one,” an official said. “Prostitution is not an illegal act in Germany, but not paying tax on earned money is. Consequently we are assessing her case and it looks likely she will have to pay around half of the sum she gained.” Alina may also get stuck with a big VAT bill (value added tax), which would work out to another 19% tax, leaving her with only $4,700 for the sale of her virginity (she’d hoped to make at least $75,000 to help pay for school). So, let this be a lesson to you virgins out there: skip the auction block and just give it up the old-fashioned way — slightly drunk and to some guy you feel so-so about! [via DailyMail]

Hmm - but if this was a one-off payment, I wonder whether or not it can be classes as “income”? Income under English law is over a period of time and isn’t classed as a one-off. Wonder if it’s the same in Germany?

ok. don’t attack me, hear me out… I’ve never met a man who didn’t pay for sex in some form. usually actual money was involved. i’m a black southern male. MANY in my culture teach their daughters not to “give it up without getting something in return.” I don’t think what she did in anyway was ok, however, is it that far fetched? Instead of slowly reaping rewards or taking on debts or losses here and there from sexual encounters, she chose to get paid all at once and use it to invest in her future. i think many people do this both male and female.
how many women are dating the “security guy” without really loving him? how many men are choosing to go first when it comes to completing school only to divorce the woman afterward and go live a “better” life on a higher income level without her? prostitution is quite common, its just that here in america we call it by other names.

I think one of the biggest problems is that girls and women know that men out there are willing to pay for such absurd things..and it is pathetic for men to partake in such, but it is hard for women to not want to try because in the history of mankind, men have always been willing to pay for sex—with money, gifts, or favors. And it shows more about the characters of men, rather than women. Women are just being savvy—of course it is hurtful to their soul and spirits, but society does not teach them (or the men) any better.
