Ted Gibson Replaces Nick Arrojo On What Not To Wear

Every personality on “What Not to Wear” seems right for the makeover show, with the exception of hairstylist Nick Arrojo (pictured right). Hosts Clinton Kelly and Stacy London have the good fashion cop/bad fashion cop schtick perfected, and makeup artist Carmindy always makes the participant look a hundred times better by “playing up” their eyes or lips. But Nick’s hairstyles were usually hit or miss. He was always a little too scissor-happy, giving participants “mom hair” on more than one occasion. And his own hairstyles, including boyish ringlets and a Caesar cut with a flavor saver, seemed in need of a makeover, too.

We’ll no longer have to witness Nick’s boring hair creations because he’s been replaced by celebrity hairstylist Ted Gibson. The switch was made in an effort to enliven the reality show, which has been on for seven years, according to Nancy Daniels, the network’s senior vice president of production and development.

Ted has done the hair of Angelina Jolie and Anne Hathaway and owns three namesake salons. He has shot five episodes of “What Not to Wear” so far, the first of which airs this Friday, and he says he’s enjoying it even when the women aren’t as thrilled with his creations as he is. The participants already have a difficult time relinquishing control of their look, especially their tresses. “You can take off the clothes and makeup, but the hair is going to stay with them after the show is done,” he says.

One thing’s for sure, Ted knows how to bring the glamour, not the mom, so I’m psyched to watch the next episode of “What Not to Wear.” Although I have to admit I’ll miss Nick because it’s hard to get used to change, even when it’s good. [The Canadian Press]

I am pleased. Man, if I had a nickel for every time Nick said “How would you feel about cutting your hair really short?” I always found his dos to be more miss than hit.

Okay, I am always sad to see anyone lose their job, but I was only pleased with what Nick did maybe 30% of the time.  Did anyone see the episode when Nick shaved one side of a participants head and dyed it blue?  Dear god, that show almost jumped the shark for me when I saw that!!

Thank goodness!  He messed up a lot of hair for a lot of women.  Granted, some hairstyles were cute, but as a person with curly hair, it KILLED me to see many curly haired person get boy short hair.  Ugh!

Okay, so apparently I’m not the only one who often wondered what he was thinking.  But I’m probably a candidate for the show myself so I thought maybe I was just clueless.  He definitely needed to get rid of his own long, curly, hair—he looked like a Geico caveman.

Wow, my Mom and I have always hated how Nick never let anyone have long hair. Now that I see how many others were also bothered by him it’s a wonder the kept him around as long as they did.

A week or two ago I was watching an episode where Nick was describing how hair on a woman should not be longer than a couple of inches past the boobs. And I was thinking ‘what the hell is he talking about?” My hair is currently a little past my shoulders, but I have had hair for the past 8 years that was to the middle of my back, never too long though. And I know long hair is harder to maintain as you age, but he always kept their hair short, when they could have kept it long-ish for a little while longer.

I liked Nick! I thought he usually did a good job, although he did have moments where he let me down. I giggle to myself every single time he says “legnth” in his weird accent. Fabulous!
Also, I never saw the episode where he died somebody’s hair blue. Are you guys for real about that?

@ nikkiwikki: I know, it’s hard to believe, but he truly did shave one side of her hair and dye it blue.  I looked for a clip on youtube, but couldn’t find anything.

@GreenAura: Holy bajesus, I am appalled. What she 18 or something? Even then, it’s terrible. What the heck was he thinking? You let me down, Nick. You let me down.

I loved Nick, but then again, I’m a short-haired woman who enjoys converting other people to the cult, haha.

@ nikkiwikki: No, she was like 24!! Her style was like rocker/punk chic, I thought she was kinda cute (if you took off all the black makeup).  Her original hair was jet black and cute, so he really did not need to change much.  But he decided to get creative and he told her he wanted to do something totally different with blue hair dye.  She probably just thought he would give her blue streaks (thats the impression that I got), so she agreed (but he never mentioned the shaving part, that I remember).  Then he shaved the side of her head.  She was devastated!! If I were her, I would have made them purchase me a high quality wig. Poor girl.

What are you people talking about? Nick was AWESOME!
truely a master of haircutting.

I know many longer haired women may resist the current short hair trend now, but some will change their minds within a couple of years and start sporting short hairstyles.

Just remember that when short hair started coming back for Men in the 1980s many guys were resistent to going short.

Ladies, do you recall when you were so happy that Men were getting shorter haircuts?
well, I know many of you might find it hard to believe, but it is the same with us men, for many of us welcome short hair on women and find ladies sporting such styles quite attractive.

There is nothing more attractive than a lovely lady wearing a short bob or pixie cut. just take a look at Katie Holmes and Victoria Beckham. two beautiful women and quite sexy.
wink

btw, I missed that episode of the blue haired lady. does anyone recall her name?
