April is STD Awareness Month, and we’re going to be posting about things like chlamydia, gonorrhea, herpes, and more all month long. Knowledge is power, people, and if you’ve learned something the hard way (through personal experience or from dating someone with an STD), we’d love for you to share your story with The Frisky. If you have/have had an STD and would be willing to tell us about it, please email tips@thefrisky.com. We’re more than happy to keep your identity anonymous.

Why in the hell is it called ‘The Clap’, nobody would be clapping if they got it…what the hell is the reasoning for calling it that, srsly.

Found this on Yahoo Answers:

“The nickname of the clap refers to a treatment that used to clear the blockage in the urethra from gonorrhea pus, where the penis would be ‘clapped’ on both sides simultaneously. This gonorrhea treatment is rarely used today, however the nomenclature remains.”

Gross.

@stelladelvinile: Thanks for the info. I know that todays treatment is just as bad…they stick what is much like a cock(PUN!!!)tail umbrella in the urethra and open it, then proceed to scrape out the pus.

Have sweet dreams tonight kiddies.

Us guys have to get multiple BIG shots of penicillin in the butt which is no fun but better then the disease.  I think gals only have to take pills.  Where’s the equity?

I was infected from a friend.  We both had multiple partners, as did some of them.  It spread like crazy to about 30 people in a very short time.  Yes, I took responsibility and called all the ladies that may have been infected from me.  They visited doctors and one of them asked if she had done anal.  Didn’t consider that the colon could be affected by contact.

Bottom line here is to act immediately with a doctor visit, treatment and abstain until your certified healthy.
