Spray-On Condom One Of The Year’s Best Ideas, Says New York Times Magazine
Last weekend’s New York Times Magazine honored this year’s many innovations in its “Year in Ideas 2008” issue. Alongside accolades for upside-down demolition, a vending machine for crows, and air bags for the elderly, there was praise for the spray-on condom. German entrepreneur Jan Vinzenz Krause came up with the idea for this perfect-fit condom while in a car wash. This year, 30 men have tested Krause’s spray-on latex invention, all to positive reviews. The only downsides are that it takes two minutes for the condom to dry and the spray is a bit cold. However, while the spray-on condom is a good idea, in theory—what guy wouldn’t want a condom that fits him just right and makes him more sensitive?—Krause said he doesn’t think his spray-on condoms will be commercially available any time soon. We’re hoping the good press will help change that. [NY Times]

The spray-on condom take two minutes to dry, but the regular condom takes about two seconds to put on. It sounds to me that the time difference would make it more of a mood-killer.
But then again, I don’t have to wear the things myself. If most of the guys gave it positive reviews, maybe there’s something there…
If you read the article, apparently it hasn’t actually been tested in intercourse yet. Maybe it’s really awesome for the men, but if we don’t like it, then they’re not gettin’ any.

the time does seem like a mood killer…
but the fact that it’s a condom to perfectly fit your lover, is something I find very appealing.
being young…I insist on condoms, even in serious relationships because I’m scared as hell of getting pregnant (even while on the pill), so I feel this product is something that would make using condoms not so bad (if that is true).

speaking as a male and only for myself, I would say the difference in fitment would be negligible when sacrificing the two minutes that it takes to dry. From my experience. the condoms that I have used are form fitting enough and take no time to don, I personally wouldnt want to wait the two minutes. My other concern would be, if you ae waiting that two minutes you may be engaging in other frisky activites to keep the mood going and if the penis responds with movement, wont it be like stretching your palm with a layer of glue on it? (bad visual) but I mean wont movement create splits in the material?. Either way…I already expressed my views on regular condoms in a committed relationship in another article but the last thing I would want is a cold spray that has a curing time. =)

But we have to remember the guy wouldn’t have to just sit there and stare at his dong for two minutes. There is plenty of kissing and fondling that could be done, those two minutes could go quite fast. The trick would just be to not wait until you need it to put it on, like you do with traditional condoms. You’d have to put it on during foreplay.

I know Lynn, thats what Im saying. If you were to put it on during foreplay during a slightly lesser state and then wait for it to dry while kissing and fondling….a) that seems like too much prep work for me personally. Im sure some guy may try it out but I have strong doubts about the majority. b) The surface area would increase beyond what was sprayed so wouldnt that create rips in the material, is what I was thinking. Not to mention, even though it cures, I would much prefer the post intercourse disposal witha regular condom (which I try to avoid anyway) rather than some spray on material.

I find it interesting that the mainstream media is still not getting it. The spray-on condom is nowhere near an invention of 2008. Also I’ve reported about the fact, that the spray on condom will not hit stores back in May on condomunity.com.
