OMG Lists did a hilarious piece this week called “10 Cross-Dressing Disguises That Shouldn’t Have Fooled Anyone.” It was pretty accurate—I mean “White Chicks,” really? So, we’re doing a counter list, featuring some of our favorite cross-dressers ever! Of course Hilary Swank in “Boys Don’t Cry” gets first honors.

I love Mulan. I had the biggest crush on Shang when I was younger. How do you have a crush on a cartoon character, you may ask? I have no idea. But his cartoonized six pack was just to die for.

the term “cross dressing” is considered offensive in much of the transgendered community…“gender non-conforming clothing” is a more appropriate term

ohhfoggylullaby took the words out of my mouth…if one is transgendered, they’re not cross-dressing.

Cillian and Mulan on the same list! Now THIS is what I’m talking about.

And FYI - since we’re being appropriate - “transgendered” is widely derided because it implies that it is being done to, or being done by, the individuals. “Transgender” is a correct term instead.

@ohhfoggylullaby I agree with you but since none of these people are Transgender in real life, then aren’t they really cross dressing for a role? Ergo the term is not inappropriate in this context.

Interesting list! You might check out John Lone’s performance in M. Butterfly; he makes a seriously convincing woman for quite a bit of the film (though he’s always wearing high-necked dresses to cover his Adam’s apple).

I really must second the love for Just One of the Guys. It’s SUCH a fun movie!

I loved Ma Vie en Rose! We watched it in one of my Gender and Sexuality classes my freshman year…even if you don’t like subtitled movies (it is in French…), it’s definitely one worth watching!

@AnitaBath:
Um, you had a crush on a cartoon man? Try having a crush on a cartoon CAT. Of course, I didn’t know it was a crush at the time, but Thomas O’Malley (the alley cat)
from Aristocats was all cocky and manly, and I liked it.
Ok fine, I’m a freak. Hahahaha.
Oh and of course I had a crush on Aladdin. Yeah…. I like boys. I’m not as bad as my sister though! lol

Boy Don’t Cry ruined Hillary Swank for me which sucks cause I’d really like to see Amelia, but it’s like ugh, why is Richard Gere with her she looks like a dude… Unfortunate.

I understand that they are not transgender in real life, I’m just saying, some people would find any use of the term “crossdressing” offensive.
FYI-the Transgender Day of Remembrance is this Friday, the 20th. Transgender individuals have a 1 in 12 chance of being murdered, while non-LGBT (called “average” in the statistic I found) have a 1 in 18,000 chance.

the Cillian Murphy movie is “Breakfast on Pluto” just in case anyone was curious. It’s pretty good.

Yeah, that could have been worded better, since it kind of implies that trans folks like Brandon Teena are just “cross-dressing” or “wearing disguises” that “mask their true identity”, which isn’t the case at all. But I know you were well-meaning, and I get what you were talking about.
Some others I’d add:
Linda Hunt as Billy Kwan in “The Year Of Living Dangerously”.
Miguel A. Núñez Jr. as Juwanna in “Juwanna Mann” (brilliant particularly because professional women’s basketball players are a little more strong/masculine in the body and face).
Lee Pace as Calpernia Addams in “Soldier’s Girl”.
And, for the non-movie examples, may I present one of the most beautiful men, ever- Brian Molko? Pretty, ?isn’t he?

Honestly, I’ve never found Hillary Swank more attractive than when she was portraying Brandon Teena in Boys Don’t Cry. I LOVE the masculine look she had..I wish she’d style herself a little butchier more often.

I’m pretty sure my boyfriend would make a hot-ass woman hahaha. He’d have to shave about every ten minutes..and I’d have to do something about those eyebrows. But yea pretty sure he’d get some cat calls. Oh this would be fun haha;)
