She Woke Up With 56 Stars Tattooed On Her Face

56 stars tattooed on her face

Eighteen-year-old Kimberley Vlaminck is freaking the hell out. The Belgian teen asked for just three little star tattoos on her face. But she fell asleep and woke up with 56 stars tattooed all over her cheeks, chin, forehead and nose.

She’s now suing tattoo artist Rouslan Tourmaniantz (check him out!) to get the 53 tattoos—black stars that look like Lohan freckles—she didn’t want removed.

“I think he didn’t understand what I wanted,” the teenager complained to the UK Sun. “He spoke only fractured English and French, but I explicitly said in my native tongue, French, that I wanted three little stars only near my left eye.” (The French words for three (“trois”) and 56 (“cinqueante et six”) sound nothing alike. Maybe go with hand gestures next time.)

Tourmaniantz insists the teen asked for 56 tats and that allegations that he “doped” or “hypnotized” her are untrue.—[Sun UK]

But even if he didn’t dope her, she must have been on something if she fell asleep the whole time it took a guy to tattoo 56 stars on her face.

Whether this is a case of a crazy tattoo artist or a slurry teenage girl, the upshot is still the same: dude, that sucks.

she wanted her face tattooed in the first place?  yikes.  I’ve watched people get tattoos done, and I have no idea how someone could sleep through that, especially that much ink!

Seriously though, you’d have to be an effing moron to get in a chair without being 100% sure you and the artist are on the same page.

How could ANYONE fall asleep while getting a tattoo, especially on their face!? Getting tats hurts really bad.

@Queen…thats interesting, my how the story changes. I agree with everyone else, there is no way she was passed out while getting tattoos FILLED IN on her NOSE.

And thats gonna look reeaaaalll dumb (or dumber, I guess) when shes say, 38ish…

Perhaps she was trying to one-up Kat Von D (has stars around her eye)?

Either way, the other news stories make it seem like she walked out of the tattoo shop perfectly happy and that her family threw a fit, so she freaked and turned on the guy. And then some psychologist is calling her a circus freak, which is cruel.

@cheese, no thats what I meant, it looks ridiculous now, but just imagine when she’s old…ew. I’ve never been a fan of face tattoos, its just silly to me and it always seem like the person is trying too hard to rebel. Not to mention is kills any chance at a job besides artist of some sort…

Y’know, I don’t believe it. I write for a tattoo blog, among other things, and there’s no way she’d fall asleep during this, especially since they’re filled in with black. I think Queen Frostine’s probably right, that she wanted it, then changed her mind once her family freaked out or she saw the result.
If she was intoxicated in any way, there’s no chance they’d come out looking so perfect. And she would have had to write the number of stars on her consent form, and would have seen the carbon print on her face that the artist works from.
Perhaps the artist should have spoken to her about it first, I know my tattoo artist would even talk through someone getting knuckle tattoos because of the effects it can have on working life, for example, though, so I’d say they were both at fault here.
Just another dumb story that puts tattoo artists to shame, really, what a shame.

@likeOMGkbye , there are many wonderful opportunities for tattooed people nowadays. Having a face tattoo might exclude you from working on Wall Street in the corporate sector, but it certainly doesn’t limit you to just being an “artist”.

Heavily tattooed people I know are writers, producers, chefs, fitness instructors, business owners, musicians, actresses, stage performers, marketing and advertising execs as well as artists. They are people who express themselves in unique ways and aren’t afraid of being themselves, along with their tattoos.

It’s not always about rebellion. It’s also about personal self expression. Not saying this girl didn’t make a mistake, but for others a tattoo on their face or neck means something important to them.

@Queen, I understand these things, really I do. I am tattooed myself and understand the self expression involved, but it is difficult to find places in the business world with tattoos visible, particularly on one’s face. With facial tattoos, many companies will balk at hiring you if there is face to face meetings required, say with clients or other firms, because a facial tattoo could be off putting to others. Who knows how the person(s) you’re meeting with could react to your facial tattoo, if they are particularly conservative they may decide not to do business with you because of the stigma connected.

Is it fair? Not always. But it’s understandable. I personally chose to place all of my tattoos in places that can be covered up easily for work, because I have no idea where my career will take me and what kind of company I may eventually work for.

I sent this post to a heavily tatt-ed friend and he said he fell asleep after an 8-hr long tattoo session…so yeah, it can happen.

Maybe she was so shocked about the extra tattoos that she didn’t really react to it until she got home. Kind of like being polite to the person who just cut your hair in a wild and crazy way that looks totally different, then getting home and realizing you HATE it after you’ve stared at yourself in the mirror for awhile alone. Only this time it is permanent.

As an owner of 7 tattoos (the smallest being the size of my palm, the largest covering a 3rd of my back), it is quite easy to fall asleep during a tattoo, depending on your pain tolerance at the time, endorphins, etc. Ive been in positions where Ive wanted to fall asleep, but wont allow myself because of involuntary reactions that could happen.

I do think there is much more to this story though.

Her mother tongue is not French but Dutch, so there was in fact a communications problem.
However, I find it hard to believe she didn’t realise what was happening. According to her statement she asked for three stars left of her left eye. You’d think she’d notice when he was tattooing her nose/forehead/cheek instead, no?

on her face? What is she in a tribe or something. Why can’t people express their “uniqueness” other ways than tatting themselves up like an Aztec warrior. I atleast understood their reasons….. Even if tats mean something so sacred to people, you really think that your dead homie RIP tattoo on your back will honor him or her???  or that butterfly means freedom… lol. I feel like people get tats because its the cool thing to do. All my girlfriends have crazy tattoos, and they all look very unprofessional, so unprofessional they look like they should be working at bars. I’m not trying to insult people with tats, good for you, make yourself happy but Its just not my cup of tea. Thats all.

@Humble Bee, because it wouldn’t be “unique” if you conform to other people’s standards.

Self expression is just that. What one person finds meaningful, another might not. I can say that memorial tattoos are very very personal. They often help a person get through the grieving process, which is very difficult and a very different process for everybody. It’s not just because it’s “cool”.

I have been known to be so relaxed during a long tattoo that I threaten to doze off, but no good artist would let a client fall asleep during a session - you could make sudden movement that would ruin the art! And I don’t imagine that face tattoos would be so ‘unpainful’ for lack of a better word that a nap would be possible. I seriously doubt the veracity of her story. It does sound like other posters are saying, that her family freaked out when they saw what she’d done and she’s trying to cover her ass.
And here I go on my French rant again..56 in French is ‘cinquante six’, no ‘et’ between the words. Sorry. French teacher, can’t stop myself.

Well this poor girl reminds me of him! At least the artist didn’t connect the dots! You can create zodiac signs with that tattoo! Anyway… you can’t lose those tatoos easily, but you can lose weight easily. Wanna find out how? Click Here!

Here’s a link to a whole article about it:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worldnews/article-1193384/What-did-expect-Incredible-face-revealed-man-tattooed-girl-56-stars-asked-three.html

The language difference seems to have caused a problem, but also the last line shows that the tattoo artist didn’t get written consent from her…I’m pretty positive I’ve signed papers everytime I’ve gotten a tattoo, but its a different country so I’m not sure what the laws are there. But now the tattoo artist is offering to pay for half of the cost to remove the tat with lasers, which is nice of him I think.

Wow, Humble Bee. Thats more than a little judgemental, wouldn’t you say?

Some people may get tattoos simply becuase ... they like butterflies. Or stars. Or dragons. Or flying toasters.

Nothing wrong with that. There was a time when pierced ears were considered “crazy, weird, trashy, unprofessional”. Just another way to decorate our bodies.

We alter our bodies everyday by what we eat, how we dress, whether we exercise, how much we sleep or smoke, etc. Tattoos are just more immediately visible.

I’m reading a LOT of conflicting reports about this girl. There was one news story that said there was a witness in the studio and that she backs up the artist in saying the girl was awake the whole time. And she says that she’s too embarrassed to leave her home yet she’s been posing for all these magazines and news outlets. This is just buyers remorse.

I have a hard time believing that she fell asleep while she was getting her face tattooed. I doubt the pain would suffice in her sleeping during the whole process. I read conflicting reports too @Queen Frostine.
I don’t think she will win the case though. Before any tattoo is done, they do a sketch on you to see if you like it. I don’t think he could have doen all of those stars perfectly without sketching it on her first and her consent in letting him do it.

I wonder if she had to pay for all 56, or if they gave her a deal?

I can see where people fall asleep while getting tattooed (I was quite sleepy with mine), but I’ve never known anyone to get any sort of facial procedure like that or piercing who fell asleep because of how sensitive the face is without benefit of drugs or anesthesia.

Was she on heavy painkillers?  How the hell can you fall asleep while someone is tattooing your face?  She’s an idiot.  I have 2 tats and they drawn your design on you, then show you, and if you say that looks good, then they tattoo it!

She has to be lying because she doesn’t like it, or her boyfriend dumped her cuz she looks stupid! And if she isn’t lying…that’s what she gets for being drunk/high when she goes to get ink done!

I just got tattooed yesterday and I can say that I wouldn’t fall asleep because it is SO LOUD.  I had something right on top of my shoulder and it vibrates your whole body and it is noisy just next to your ear.  I know people who have had tat’s behind their ears and it literally rattles your entire skull.  I can see a large back piece or leg piece making you sleeping after the exhaustion of being systematically injured for hours and hours… but not a quickie like that, right on the face.  3 stars would take a few minutes, 15 minutes of rattling your skull… you would not fall asleep.

To say something of that guys technique, it looks pretty ok, but its pretty harsh for a girl’s face.  I would do more delicate like outlines with a much thinner needle, maybe a light color inside instead of black.  That girl made a terrible choice and she is so regretting it.. sounds like a typical teenager.

@Ogbu I totally agree with you. Tattoos aren’t unprofessional and it’s sad that many people want one but choose not to because it might mean not getting a job somewhere or not climbing as high in the corporate ladder. THIS NEEDS TO CHANGE.

Anyway, I think Kimberley Vlaminck should’ve done her research first on a tattoo site like this printed it out and showed him. That should’ve fixed the problem! Unless the problem is that she’s just indecisive and nothing fixes that.

Tattoos + indecision = trouble.
