Sex & Celluloid: The Top 5 Chick Flicks With Bite
Megan Fox‘s “Jennifer’s Body” came out last weekend, bringing writer Diablo Cody back into the spotlight we left her in, covered in rotten tomatoes from irate “Juno” haters. Sure, there is “The United States of Tara,” but Toni Collette won that Emmy for a reason: She’s working with so little. But so far, there’s been tentative praise for the horror/comedy “Jennifer’s Body,” where Cody’s quirky dialogue fits right in amongst the bloodshed. Think “Heathers” meets “Rosemary’s Angry Teenage Daughter.”
She-demons, vampires, aliens, witches, werewolves ... there are just so many ways the women in horror films can strike a blow against the patriarchy, subverting the traditional laws of thrillers where the innocent, nubile victims in tight sweaters go into the attic to escape the killer. (Why? Why would you do that?) In honor of the trend, here is our top-five film list of Chicks with Bite.| Top 5 Chick Flicks With Bite | |

1. "Species" Most 20-something men will tell you that "Species" was their first almost-porn film. You know, because the hot alien woman (Natasha Henstridge) is trying to mate with a human male and produce alien offspring, so there is a lot of boobage and sex in the film. Then again, she has a nasty habit of killing dudes after she mounts them, so that explains why so many young guys these days never want to watch "Aliens" with you in the room. |

2. "Ginger Snaps" And all the relatively goofier sequels, aduh! Cheerleaders that turn into werewolves and perform acts of mayhem and lesbianism. Or is that bestiality? Either way, this one is every parent's nightmare. |

3. "The Hunger" Catherine Deneuve and David Bowie play sexy vampire-swingers who bring alluring scientists (not an oxymoron for Hollywood!) into their coven. Think part "Dangerous Liaisons," part "Interview with A Vampire," and part OMG, David Bowie as a vampire! |

4. "Carrie" Nothing says "high school revenge fantasy" like being able to destroy your entire high school with your friggin' mind bullets. Add to the De Palma film a threatening undertone of sexual pubescence = blood and gore (plug it up!) and you have the best reason to never take a shower after high school gym class again. |

5. "Witches of Eastwick" Michelle Pfeiffer, Cher, and Susan Sarandon (again!) might seem like an acting trifecta made in heaven, but these characters -- based on Philip Roth's book of the same name -- come into their own after each being seduced by Satan himself, Jack Nicholson. And while this leads to some pretty sexy simulated orgies, it also lets the trio get back at their enemies by having them vomit cherry pits. Ew. |

FYI, John Updike wrote the Witches of Eastwick, not Philip Roth.

Do yourself a favor and rent Teeth. I don’t even know how to describe it. Part satire, part female revenge, part social commentary, and completely entertaining.

My vote goes to “Carrie”. Should be required high school watching to reduce incidents of bullying.

My idea of a “chick flick with bite” is one where we see less boobs and lesbianism and more wieners.

Ginger Snaps is awesome.
The girls weren’t cheerleaders though. That is…that is way off. And the borderline lesbianism is nothing compared to the borderline incest.
