Sept. 1: What Are People Wearing Today?

When we look at street style sites like the Sartorialist, Garance Doré, Lookbook.nu, and even The MidWasteland, we get inspired to try new things when we get dressed in the morning. But sometimes, we get a little down on the whole “real girl” style sensation. Sure, these people aren’t models, but they certainly look like they could be. Is her skin really that perfect? Can she put on anything—even sweats—and still look Parisian-chic? Why do I look like such a jackass when I try to wear a scarf when these people look properly accessorized?! Seriously, does this girl ever have a bad day?
So, to show what real women look like on a daily basis, both the ups and the downs, we’ll be documenting what Frisky staffers wear to the office during the month of September. Sometimes we don’t wash our hair (and a few of us have been known to despise showering in general). Other times we wear the same cardigan four days out of the week. But every once in a while, we have a really good outfit day and can’t bear to go home and take off what we managed to pull together. Click through to see what we put on after we rolled out of bed, and then share what you’re wearing today.

OK I am IN LOVE with this feature!! You ladies all look gorgeous. Annika’s six words pretty much sum up my style philosophy as well
And today I am wearing a brown sweater dress from Target and brown and gold (fake!) snakeskin pumps from Rampage. The shoes really kind of rock. I’m an Internet moron so I don’t know how to add a picture or anything, though.

Yes, this is great… Annika, love the look, casual but put-together, and Catherine, I love the red cardigan…
w brown faux-leather Steve Madden heels.
Me… I’m wearing dark indigo jeans and a vintage rainbow-colored checked shirt…
Spatuala: that sounds aweseome!

This feature is amazing! Thanks for letting me know that it doesn’t take tons of money to look slammin’. I’m going to go raid my closet right now and put together some pieces I’ve been afraid to try.
Simcha’s is my favorite, though. I, too, bought some platform wedges and have the battle scars to prove it.

I like them all, but my favorite is Annika’s. I love layers myself as well.

Love this feature! I’m clueless when it comes to style, so this gives me some ideas.
Want Simcha’s outfit!

Just want to chime in that as I was clicking thru the photos, my (male) coworker walked by my computer and goes “Dont order those pants” in reference to Erin’s Harem pants. Why dont men EVER understand/appreciate high fashion?

@yasminzar: I get it, and I think a lot of men do. Many clothing designers are male. However, the issue here isn’t “high fashion,” it’s that these pants look like an adult diaper, no matter how you slice it. Pleats add bulk, a low crotch adds bulk and lengthens a part of the torso that makes your legs look disproportionately short and a high waist makes even a slab-flat stomach look bulgy. Tapered leg pants almost always add weight to your thighs, man or woman. The pants are ugly and unflattering. If you want to talk high-concept and edgy fabrication techniques combined with clever new interpretations of old standards, breaking boundaries and all of that, fine. Just don’t expect that high fashion equates a flattering look. The girl wearing them says she rocks them because they are comfortable. Fine, that works for me, it’s a statement. I appreciate the concept, but like any form of high art, I don’t appreciate the insinuation that concept is all you need in an object that is created to be functional as well as artistic.

Nice work! Like everyone else, I love this idea! Plus, it’s fun to get to see what TheFrisky writers look like in real life!
Today was my first day back at school (I’m a teacher), so I wanted to look cute. I wore my favorite dress! It’s from Target, where many of my fave items in my closet are from. It’s a very simple black button-down shirt dress with 3/4 sleeves that roll up. I wore it with a silver belt (also from Target) and my Havainas.
